From what we can gather, Bob was well-loved, but at no fault of his own, was left behind when his family was evicted. Bob is currently underweight and will most likely be a 110-115lb dog once he’s put on adequate weight.

First impressions:

Dogs: Indifferent to most dogs, no reactivity or aggression to any dogs, however he doesn’t engage in play with all dogs, he’d rather sniff around and pee on things. He does however play rough and love to wrestle with the dogs he does click with.

Cats: Unsure with cats, we will test him once he’s settled in. He does not pay much attention to the resident chickens.

Kids: Though we have not tested him with children he was living in a home with 3 or 4 children under the age of 10 prior to entering care.

Strangers: Will let out a “boof” type bark when he sees new people through his kennel or fenced yard, but so far has been friendly with everyone that he’s met. He loved on everyone at the vet clinic.

Crate: Bob is clean in his kennel, however he does get stress diarrhea with change so the first week he did require frequent potty breaks! He does bark when there are things going on around him, but does eventually settle.

Leash: Decent on leash, pulls to sniff, however is respectful of a leash correction.

Car Skills: Initially Bob was quite fearful to get up into the car, but with a few times practicing he is now getting up on his own. He is a little unsure in the car, but calmly sits and doesn’t make a peep.

Energy Level: Low to medium. Bob is a happy go lucky fella who enjoys sauntering around sniffing and peeing on things.

Confidence: A little unsure, would definitely benefit from a confident handler who will advocate for him and continue to build him up.

Affection: Bob has a decent level of affection, he neither seeks it out obnoxiously, nor avoids it. He enjoys a good pet, but will also contentedly do his own thing.

Resources: Has not shown any issues with people or other dogs thus far.

Behavioural: Typical to mastiff behaviour, Bob will let out an aloof “boof” type bark when observing new people, he has however been friendly with everyone he’s met. We have no behavioural concerns with Bob.

Training: Bob is not overly motivated by food so we are working on building up his food drive. He is highly driven by the fact that he’s intact and we are hoping that once he’s neutered he will become more engaged with his handlers. He has already made great strides in the last 3 weeks.

Best traits: a gentle giant, great with all dogs, clean in his kennel, easy going and really doesn’t need much in the way of work/training for him to be adopted.

Needs improvement: Building food motivation so that training becomes fun and easy for all involved.

Bob is in good health. He currently has his neuter appointment scheduled for the beginning of Dec 2023, and has one more booster shot left to be completed. Otherwise, he is up to date on his vetting. **He has not yet been heartworm tested**
