My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kira, our 65 pound 2 year old Malamute, is excited that it's almost her season. We can see her daydreaming about running through a winter landscape, perhaps pulling a sleigh full of dog-treats. We haven't had the heart to tell her it hardly ever snows here. Good thing Kira is also excited about finding her forever home; we couldn't bear to disappoint her twice!

Kira comes to us from a local vet clinic after she was surrendered to them. She had a lacerated ear and her owner was about to lose their housing. They sadly could not afford to care for her anymore. We took Kira in, spayed, microchipped and vaccinated her, and healed her ear laceration. Now we just have to find this lovely dog a family.

Like most Malamutes, Kira is initially aloof. Once she warms up, though, she is sweet, playful and goofy. She play-bows her foster mom in the house and loves to initiate cuddles, boops and pets. Kira previously lived with other dogs, kids and cats and reportedly did well with them. However, she does seem interested in cats while out walking. A slow introduction to a dog saavy cat would be recommended. Kira has done well with dogs we've seen her meet, but it takes her a while to warm up to them. She probably wouldn't like living with a very forward dog.

At night, Kira sleeps on the floor next to her foster mom's bed. She has not been in a crate, but her foster mom reports that she is potty trained and quiet. Kira is not destructive and is polite in the house. She is strong and her adopter will need to keep working on leash skills (this breed was meant to PULL), but she loves walks and is not leash reactive. Malamutes are working dogs and Kira will thrive with someone who wants to work on training and keeping her mind stimulated.

Kira is heartworm negative and current on her flea and heart worm preventatives.

Did Kira pull on your heartstrings? Well, sleigh it like you mean it! Apply to adopt. After all, there's snow place like your home for Kira. www.stumptownstrays.org
