Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/.
Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit.
Meet Tinkerbell!
Tinkerbell is an 8-year-old, 10 lb Terrier mix who came to us from another rescue when they didn’t have the resources to help her. She had mammary tumors and diabetes and needed some tender loving care.
Tinkerbell is looking for a home that is familiar with diabetes. She requires insulin twice a day but she takes her shots with no problem at all. She currently gets her urine tested once a day to monitor her levels. Most diabetic pets get a glucose curve test administered by their vet every six months to make sure their levels remain steady. Once adopted, Tinkerbell should be taken to your vet to have a plan put in place to best fit her needs. Tinkerbell is fully housebroken and will let you know when she needs to go outside. She can also use wee wee pads if you are not home. Tinkerbell’s mammary tumors were removed and although they were malignant, the vet feels there is only a very small chance the cancer could return. Tinkerbell loves her food and sometimes other animal’s/people’s food as well. Tinkerbell would do best in a home without small children. If you have other pets in the home, she should be fed separately to prevent food sharing from happening. She is also happy to investigate the trash and tables, so caution needs to be taken in these areas. Her original owners were not very nice and threw scraps of food at her to feed her, so she needs time to understand that she will never go hungry again. Tinkerbell is good with cats and other small dogs. She is ok with big dogs but may bark at them.
Tinkerbell would do great with an active family. She currently walks almost 3 miles a day and loves to run. She is a very fast runner, so a fenced in yard is a definite plus. Tinkerbell loves her toys and carries them around with her. If you are not available for a game of fetch, she will line them up in a dog bed and nap with them. Tinkerbell loves to watch out the window and get her hair brushed. She will happily snuggle up with you and give you tons of kisses. FYI, she wants kisses back! This wonderful pup had a hard start to her life and deserves the best life has to offer. She requires a special home, with a special family. Could it please be yours? Apply today.
