Hi! My name is Milan and I am from Missouri!

From her Temp Foster: Milan is a lovable and incredibly sweet dog who adores her people more than anything. She's fiercely loyal and deeply bonded with her family, always wanting to be by their side. However, her protective instincts can make her a bit anxious when meeting new people. She'll bark to "protect her pack," but with patience, continued training, & proper introductions, she begins to be more comfortable with visitors.

Milan's protectiveness does extend to some resource guarding of her people, especially after she forms a strong bond. She might bark at guests when they enter the house, standing guard until they sit down and she feels comfortable. Her family has worked with a trainer to help her overcome this fear-based behavior through games and structured introductions, but this is an ongoing process that her new family will need to continue.

Around other dogs and children, Milan is fantastic. She's playful and friendly, especially with her current family's two kids (ages 7 and 4). Milan's boundless energy makes her an active playmate, though her strong prey drive means she might not do well in a home with cats or other small animals she could chase.

Milan thrives on daily exercise and needs plenty of outlets for her energy, whether it's long walks, runs, backyard sprints, or trips to the dog park. She's house-trained and listens well when told to "kennel up, though she prefers to be out and about with her people when they're home. She is a lab/shepherd mix so is very trainable and has energy to burn :)

As a young pup, Milan still has a penchant for chewing, so a supply of chew toys is essential to keep her entertained and your belongings safe (she sends her apologies to Barbie). On walks, her excitement can sometimes lead to pulling at the start, so some leash training will continue to benefit her.

Milan is a loyal, loving, and energetic companion who's looking for a family ready to provide the structure, love, and exercise she needs. If you're up for continuing her training and giving her the active lifestyle she thrives on, Milan will reward you with endless love, cuddles, and loyalty.

The Bond Between's goal is to not keep any animals at our rescue office. The majority of our animals are living in foster homes until they are adopted. Occasionally, animals are living in our rescue office that are in need of a foster home.

If you would like to meet an animal at our office who needs a foster, please reach out to inofficeanimals@thebondbetween.org and fill out our foster interest form at https://www.thebondbetween.org/foster

More about this rescue

The Bond Between is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that focuses on the bond between humans and animals. We were founded in 2009 as Secondhand Hounds. Since then, we have rescued over 29,000 dogs and cats with the help of thousands of fosters, volunteers, and supporters in our community. Our organization has grown from a rescue to a first-in-its-class animal wellbeing organization... now The Bond Between! We continue to provide safe shelter, proper veterinary care, and daily necessities for animals while working hard to help them build a bond with humans. We also focus on supporting the bonds that already exist between people and pets with our pet food shelf, respite foster care program, and focus on social services.

We wake up every morning saying YES to connecting people and animals, caring for them, and helping them fill each other’s hearts.

You can help support us today by donating, fostering, volunteering, or sharing The Bond Between.
