My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We hope you have room on your couch because Orion is going to ask you to move on over and make space for his affectionate cuddles. This guy is known for checking back in with his humans on walks and cuddling up to their legs to say hi, and ask for pets.
We have seen that Orion has a well balanced energy level. As much as he appreciates walk and play time out in the play yard, he is very content with a bone, chew toy or taking a long nap. We think he would do well in a medium energy home and a consistent walking routine.
This cuddler is also reported to be leash trained which is sure to make your walks enjoyable for you both! He is dog experienced and likes the company of fellow canines, so he may just make the perfect little brother to your resident dog. To ensure compatibility, we are going to host a doggy meet up at AAC. Just let us know when!
Orion just turned 1 year old, and while he brings Staff & Volunteers joy and laughs, we know that this bundle of fun is going to make his forever family the happiest. Adopting a 1 year old like Orion comes with many benefits like the ability to install positive habits, while still experiencing important milestones of adopting a puppy- introducing him to new places, going on adventures for the first time & learning basic commands. Orion deserves a caring and loving home that matches his love for snuggles and affection. Come meet this beautiful pup today and see if he has a spot on your couch.

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
