My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Are you in the search for the next agility or flyball champ? How about the perfect dog to take on hikes or your daily jogs? Or maybe you want a dog that you can train to do any trick imaginable? Well I’m the dog for you! I’m an EXTREMELY intelligent dog who is just itching to go out and explore the world. I absolutely love being active! I’ve got lots of good energy that I love to spend on chasing and leaping after toys! I’m quite the toy fanatic, I love them more than anything. Since I’m an active boy with lots of brains, I’ll need a home committed to providing me with the exercise I need daily as well as plenty of ways to work my intelligent brain! Speaking of intelligence, I’ve already mastered some commands such as sit, stay, and lie down. At first I may seem a little shy and standoffish around new people, but I gotta admit, I’m a real sucker for attention once I know you. After you have earned my trust I will be loyal to you forever (hint: treats and toys are the way to my heart!) Once I’ve got my energy out running after toys, I love to chill out with my favorite human and receive lots of belly rubs! If you are someone who is willing to embrace my energetic personality and provide me with the mental and physical stimulation I need to be the best version of myself then please come meet me at the Nacogdoches campus!
See you soon, Darwin

More about this shelter

The Animal Defense League was established in 1934 by a group of individuals, “for the prevention of cruelty to animals; to promote kind and humane treatment of animals; and to aid and assist the enforcement of laws enacted for the prevention of animal cruelty.”

In 1961, ADL moved to its present location in the easily accessible northeast part of San Antonio. Its campus encompasses more than 12 acres and includes a two-acre pet park. On the property is an Adoption Center with a small retail store, and a separate 5,000 square-foot Clinic which houses our veterinary hospital that provides onsite spay/neuter surgery, surgery for injured and ill animals, and ongoing medical care for all ADL resident animals.
