Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Derek is an exuberant, playful cuddlebug, and completely housebroken/potty-trained.
Derek loves his person and will be by your side, literally, throughout the day. He also loves meeting new people and has endeared himself to our neighbors and other people on walks. He isn`t reactive to other dogs walking by from inside (I have no pets of my own, currently), but outside may stop and start to focus if alerted to another dog nearby in our complex. Of note, most of the other dogs in my complex are the `instigators`/ reactive ones, so we keep our distance. We have been to Catalina State Park and Riverfront Park, and he hasn`t had an issue with seeing other dogs up there. He is also not super vocal, but can sometimes emit a whine on our short walks if a neighbor dog is near. He proved himself to be a great watchdog very late one night when someone was walking by our open bedroom window. Derek had some great barks! That was an isolated incident but a pleasant surprise.
Derek is extremely affectionate and generous with his kisses, but responds immediately with a gentle `sit` to create personal space. He is always excited to see me come home and jumps for joy. We have been working on creating that personal space also with the `sits`. This may not be universal, since a foster sitter told me he didn`t do that jumping/`hugging` with her. Derek got `good boy` notes from two foster sitters and a groomer recommended by PACC.
As a border collie mix, I thnk Derek would do best in a larger home with a yard. My apartment isn`t large, so I take him for multiple walks daily. He is a wonderful, adorable boy and would really thrive in a bigger environment. He seems to love all people but would need to meet any dog to ensure a good fit.
