Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Sailor is an incredibly sweet, gentle Australian Shepherd mix. She is about 2 years old and weighs 43 lbs. Sailor is very playful with other dogs and LOVES to run. She is very fast and is typically the one being chased!
Sailor loves food and will often rest her chin on her foster parents to see what they are eating and more importantly, if they plan to share! She takes treats very gently. She’s quiet, only barking when her meals are being prepared and occasionally while playing. She takes a bit to get comfortable with new people, but once she knows you she is very affectionate. She often smothers her foster parents with kisses!
She is house trained and crate trained. This super sweet girl will be a great family dog once she gets comfortable in her new home. Sailor would love a fenced-in yard to run around in. Another playful dog would be a bonus, but she would do fine as an only dog. Due to her initial timidness, a home with children 10 and older is preferred. Sailor is being fostered south of Boston and is available for visits.

Sailor is one of the nearly 100 dogs and puppies seized in an alleged cruelty case at a high-volume breeder in Hertford County, North Carolina back in May. Although the dogs being bred were mostly Aussies, this girl was also found on the property. Clearly different than the other dogs, she was identified as a beagle mix. Frankly, we’re not sure how much beagle is in there, if any, but when the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) reached out to ask if we could help Sailor leave their busy care center and get into a foster home, we were happy to help. We are honored to be part of her journey to living a Happy Life!
Sailor was likely born on the property. While with HSUS she gained some much-needed weight and has gotten healthy. If you are interested in the cruelty case she was a part of, see the Humane Society’s Press Release from May at
