Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Look into my eyes.....
This girl!! Queen of the clan. Meet Rosalee/Rosie/Rose.....she'll respond to all. She's an older girl (9), so no shenanigans like those younger kitties. Rosalee is content laying around and loves head scratches and being brushed.
Rosalee sweetly stares straight in your eyes while you scratch her head. If you dare walk past her without acknowledgement, you'll get a stare and a grunt. If you stop petting, she'll grunt and reach out with a tap to remind you to return to your job.
Rosie doesn't jump, so she needs a step of some kind to help her get on on higher surfaces like beds and couches. If her feet comfortably reach the top of a surface, she can typically hop up or over to the surface.
She's pretty slow moving UNLESS she hears the Temptations container or Delectables Lickables bag being opened. Girl can run when necessary! She's also a huge fan of catnip!
Rosalee used to hiss at her foster cat brothers and sisters if they got anywhere near her-even if she was the one walking into their space. She quickly earned respect....nobody messes with Rosalee. As time has passed, she is now allowing the other cats to lay near her, and sometimes touch her. They are feeling safe enough to sniff her and even give her a few licks on her head. Rosalee has even been caught sneaking a sniff or two when they are not looking :0)
Rosalee is an easy cat. She doesn't need much, just a soft place to nap, someone to lay near/on, head scratches, and treats. She doesn't get into any trouble. She's fine by herself and will learn to tolerate resident cats as long as they respect her. She has not been around the resident dogs other than hearing them bark. She doesn't seem to pay attention to their barking and would probably be fine with a dog that is not too intrusive.
Rosalee has long hair and likes to bathe, so she takes medicine every other day to help prevent hairballs. She takes her medicine with no fuss at all!!
This is one special girl! You really need to meet her! Almost forgot-she has the best furry feet that look like cute Ugg boots!

All adoption prices include spay/neuter, an engraved I.D. tag, initial vaccines, a free vet visit, and 10% off at our retail shop on the day of adoption!
($10 microchip fee applies to all adoptions)
*Adoption fees vary
The process is simple; come in and visit with the pet you are interested in, and we will talk with you to see if it is a good match. Please bring with you a photo ID, and you are welcome to bring in your dog to do an introduction with your new pet. If the pet is not spayed or neutered, we will schedule their appointment for our next available transport day to the spay/neuter clinic.
We have dedicated volunteers and staff who can help you choose the right match for your family. Just ask for assistance, let us know what your needs are and we can help you find your next friend.
Placing an animal on ‘hold’: we want your adoption experience to be as pleasant and stress-free as possible. We allow potential adopters to place holds on pets so that they can take their time making adoption decisions, introduce family members and other pets. Holds may be placed over the phone, email or in person, and in the case of a “tie”, the individual physically visiting the shelter and the animal will be awarded the first hold on the pet.
1st hold: $30 per 24 hours
2nd hold and beyond: $15
Hold fees are non-refundable and are not applied towards the adoption fee.

More about this shelter
For over fifty years, the LHS has operated as a private, non-profit organization, caring for lost and homeless pets. Last year, we cared for 3,981 pets and 96% of the pets went to new or existing homes. We are a No Kill Humane Society and a 501c3. By operating the public shelter for the City of Lynchburg and Appomattox County, we accept the stray or unwanted pets surrendered to us from those communities. We also have developed a more regional/state level focus. In 2016 we helped 602 pets from other public shelters that otherwise may have had a negative outcome. We accept those that are easily adoptable as pets, as well as those that need special nurturing from abusive or neglectful experiences. We firmly believe that no healthy or treatable pet should be euthanized. Along with our Center for Pets we also have a regional spay/neuter clinic located in Evington, VA. The spay/neuter clinic serves Lynchburg, Campbell, Nelson, Rockbridge, Appomattox, Bedford and Amherst Counties. It is the help of the community that makes our life-saving programs possible.
Mission: Help pets in need thru sheltering, adoption, education, spay/neuter and community outreach.
Vision: A community free of homeless and neglected pets.
