My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Kramer, the 60lb lap dog! This sweet (not-so) little boy has personality for days; he loves walks, treats, and rope toys; and is the most loyal companion and friend looking for his forever home.

Kramer spent some time in a home and this is what his hosts said `Kramer is generally down to do what you’re doing — he is great sitting at your feet while you WFH or he can be ready for a run at a moments notice. Just be forewarned that personal space isn’t in his vocabulary - if you put on a movie, he’ll curl up on you (not next to you) for its entirety. His favorite activity, aside from snuggling, are finding treats in his snuffle mat or sniffing on a walk, is snuggling. When it’s time for bed, he’ll certainly try and squeeze in with you, but he’s more than happy to sleep in his crate, as well.
This guy would love an active human and a good play space — his little zoomies are hilarious! Being a young pup who grew up in the shelter, he is still working on his manners, especially when he is excited to see you. Kramer has shown a strong desire to learn and we are so amazed and proud of him for how fast he learns — he is very treat and praise motivated. Not trying to brag, but Kramer has mastered “sit,” “stay,” and “down” commands, and has learned how to give kisses!

Kramer enjoys meeting new people, but prefers them to be respectful of his space while he gets to know them. Once he gets a good sniff and respectful greetings, it’ll be minutes before he’s climbing in his new friend’s lap for some love. Like most dogs, he doesn’t love his face or head pet by strangers, but once he trusts you, he loves all the rubs.

Kramer showed no signs of destructive behaviors when left alone and is seemingly house-trained. Despite his love of affection he is an independent guy and will generally just hang and sleep if you need to step out for a few hours. Kramer is genuinely such a sweet, amazing boy with some hilarious quirks and has the most lovable disposition. He’s a gentle little guy and is so wonderfully affectionate and trusting, despite his rough start to life. Any person would be lucky to bring him into their family!`

Come meet this sweet, playful, loving guy today!

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00am to 7:00pm. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
