Meet Stevie Wander! Stevie Wander is an Australian shepherd mix who is just 10 weeks old who is a victim of irresponsible breeding practices. Due to the cruel people that bred his parents he has has two copies of the merle gene, causing him to be deaf and mostly blind (microphthalmia). Despite his vision and hearing impairments he is the most happy, sociable, and intelligent young man! He runs around the yard with all his friends, with absolutely no fear or issue navigating obstacles! He loves the people he knows, and will be an extremely loyal companion for the lucky person who gets to share their life with him. He is being trained by a professional behaviorist, who specializes in special needs dogs, and is already showing just how smart and capable he is.
Our wonderful dog trainer (Erin @DownToEarthDogLady) has offered to give his adoptive family their first training session for free, to teach them all amazing training Stevie has been learning under her guidance. We would like to find him a family who will continue to work with a trainer, to educate themselves on how to best care for and communicate with Stevie Wander. He has all the typical herding breed tendencies and will do best with a high energy house hold that understands his mental and physical exercise and training requirements. He will do best in a home without young children and small dogs as well.
He is a really, really special little man and we are so grateful to get to see how much happiness he has and gives to everyone around him each and every day. If you are interested in being considered for this ray of sunshine please apply at www.angelsretreat.org.
