Zach (M) is a 4 year old Dogo Argentino. He is currently living at a kennel awaiting a foster home, and often visits the home of his favorite staff member!
Zach is house and crate trained. He is currently in a kennel, but does transition into a crate when needed without any issue. the only time he has accidents is when his favorite staff member goes on vacation and he doesn't get his weekly pupiccinos! He knows all of his basic commands (crate, place, sit, down, muzzle,
Zach is affectionate and loves his favorite staff member, he is very loyal to the person he builds a bond with. He is good in the car going on trips with her, and sometimes visits her house where he is a lovely guest with everyone he meets. On intake, we were told that he needed proper introductions with strangers and had some barrier aggression, however we have not seen these reactions in care. He has only reacted to someone who made his favorite staff member nervous. Zach can however be pushy about getting his way, and needs a home with power breed experience.
Zach is a typical Dogo Argentino. He has lived with other dogs before, but has overcorrected causing injury to another dog. He would do best as an only-pet, and not allowed meeting other dogs in public. Zach attends a group training class weekly and is fantastic at focusing on his person and ignoring other dogs, and this will need to carry forward into his forever home. He can be reactive towards small animals and reactive or nervous dogs. Zach needs a very confident and experienced handler who is capable of strong corrections and able to redirect him when he reacts, as he is a big strong boy and can be a bit bull-headed.
This sweet boy is affectionate, calm and a pleasure to go for a walk with, or keep his people company reading on the porch! Car rides are his favorite things in the world, and he can go for a 3+ hour car ride without any issues, and is not destructive if his person steps out for a minute. Zach loves his toys but will destroy the stuffies and has had issues with swallowing parts in the past. He does best with his antler chews.
Although Zach is currently being fostered at a kennel, he does go home with his favorite staff member on alternating weekends and does well in a home environment, crate or free! Does not get into the garbage or bark at the door, just enjoys lounging around, looking out the window, and being in the presence of other people (mostly to sneak his way into getting more belly rubs). He enjoys meeting new people and loves receiving pets! Has done well at small family gatherings with other adults and will attempt to be a lap dog (very cute)
Zach is a medium energy boy. He is often quite lazy, but does enjoy walks and can get the zoomies around dinner time! He is quiet in his crate and could adjust to apartment living if needed, however navigating hallways and elevators with other dogs could be challenging.
Zach is a smart boy with a great training drive with people he has bonded with. He can be stubborn with new people, but does well using the marker training system. Zach is muzzle conditioned due to his reactivity towards some dogs, and his history. He is good for grooming sessions and can be stubborn about getting in the tub, but does well with markers and rewards! With the right person, Zach is an absolute dreamboat!
Here is what Zach's foster mom has to say about him:
"Zack is a big, goofy, snuggly boy! He has been working with me for a year now in hopes of finding his furever home. He may come across as an intimidating boy but once that bond is built he is an extremely loyal and affectionate. He enjoys meeting new adults and getting scratches - sometimes he acts like a lap dog! Zach loves antler chews and Sunday naps, and most of all he loves treats! We often go for puppicinos from Starbucks and it's his favourite outing!
Due to his rough past, Zach needs to be the only pet in the house. He has done very well at family gatherings with a teens and adults, but has been overstimulated and drivey with young kids running around, so he needs a 12+ household. Zach does fantastic in the house, he doesn’t snoop or destroy anything - he is just happy to sleep on a big comfy couch (or doggy bed) near loved ones. Overall he is a big lazy goofball and would enjoy a family looking for some snuggles and entertainment (his zoomies are serious hilarious)!
