Skye (M) is a 2yo Lab X. He is currently living with his foster parents and two canine foster siblings in a detached house.

Skye is house trained, and crate trained. Skye loves being with his people and can whine softly in his crate if he feels left out, but is not loud enough to cause a noise complaint if he lived in an apartment setting. While in foster care Skye has learned how to relax and be independent out of the crate. In his new home, he will require someone that will continue to build onto this independence. Skye is currently doing well with free reign in the house when his family is home. He does not actively get into things he should not and sticks to chewing his dog chews or bones that are down for him.

Skye loves all people, although sometimes he can show too much love by showing rude puppy behaviours like jumping up when he meets new people. He adores his foster mom and likes to follow her around the house and nudge her for pets. Skye hasn't met any kids, but seems happy with every new human he meets in the neighbourhood. His future furever home will need to be prepared to correct some of his ruder happy behaviours, and encourage calm greetings.

Skye is amicable with the other dogs he meets, but can be easily excited and rude. He was able to calmly coexist with the dogs in his intake and has been happily living with 2 resident dogs in his foster home. Skye has also done a group class with other dogs where he learned to calmly walk past them with some distraction. He can change pace quickly when walking by other dogs and try to be pushy playing with other dogs. On walks, Skye will at times fixate on other dogs, and sometimes whines, or lunge towards them. His leash skills still need work in a normal outdoor environment. He has been learning to focus on his foster mom and to break his focus from other dogs before reacting. He has made lots of progress in his foster home, both with his leash reactivity and working on loose leash walking, but will need a furever family that can continue working on his leash skills to keep up all the good work his foster mom is putting in.

Skye has been tested with cats, and has proven that with his strong prey drive, he would not do well with cats. His prey drive is so strong that sometimes he gets distracted and forgets why he's outside for pee breaks! Skye has been taught "leave it" by his foster mom to prevent him from lunging, or pulling heavily towards small animals he sees on walks. He has made lots of progress with this command on walks.

Skye had no previous training before coming into rescue, but a lot of commands since coming into care including, sit, down, crate, leave it, focus, place, paw, and to play fetch! He really enjoys fetch the most. His foster family love to use it to burn his mental energy by throwing the ball, and only releasing him when he gives them eye contact. This has helped a lot with Skye's prey drive. Skye is very gentle taking food by hand. Skye enjoys car rides and loves being brushed. He is a pretty happy boy with his people!

Skye does exhibit some needy and anxious behaviours always wanting to be with his people. At this time, we would not characterize him as having Separation Anxiety, however we believe he has the potential to develop it if boundaries and structure are not put into place in his everyday life. Skye is currently not destructive and doing well in his foster home, but we will be looking into a forever home that is committed to work with him to help him be fulfilled and to continue to be comfortable being independent.

Here is what Skye's foster mom has to say about him:

"Skye is such a sweet, goofy, gentle boy! Each day spent with Skye is filled with laughter and love, which makes our days a whole lot brighter. We have loved seeing him grow and learn how to be the best boy, while knowing that he has even more potential to be unlocked!
His love for his people and his foster siblings is endearing and knowing that we have a big place in his heart is truly sweet."
