My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MPMR requires that all animals in the home are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccines (unless there is a verifiable medical reason), and on heartworm prevention.

Hi! My name is Lilo! I am 100% velcro dog and full of love once I get to know someone new. Interested in being my new family? Don't let my missing leg fool you. I do just fine even on 3. I was hit by a car before coming into rescue, and my foot was shattered beyond repair. So the leg had to go. Even throughout all the pain, I've been the best girl and never showed any aggression towards people helping me. Like most Chihuahuas, it takes me a little time to be okay with someone new, but once you give me treats, I'll be your best friend. I will protect you from strangers too. I have met a very respectful older child and liked her, so I would probably do well with children ages 8 and up who are calm.

I am crate trained and house trained. I learned very fast about routines after watching the other dogs here. Speaking of them, I tolerate their presence WITH SLOW AND PROPER INTRODUCTIONS, but I have no interest in cuddling with or playing with them. I would much rather spend time with people and will either lick someone's leg or sit adorably in front of them and whine to be placed on furniture.

A few notes about my ideal home:
1 I refuse to do my business on leash, so I need a fenced yard.
2 I can't walk up and down stairs. None of those please.
3 My new humans must understand that keeping my weight on the leaner side is ideal since I only have 3 legs. Being overweight means I will develop arthritis in my remaining back leg more quickly.
4 I can be a little picky with food at first while getting used to a new home, but don't worry. It is temporary.

Because of all I've been through, the rescue is doing slow kill heartworm treatment with me. I get Advantage Multi each month. I will need to be retested in September to make sure treatment worked. However, I have no symptoms."
