Rocco and Milhouse were left in the shelter’s night drop box in a cardboard box. They were very unsocialized (likely they were just backyard puppies that no one wanted). The shelter staff were unable to handle them, and they were deemed “unadoptable” so they contacted us. We originally took the dog with the most issues (Rocco), thinking maybe Milhouse would eventually come around. Rocco remained skittish in his foster home, while Milhouse became more handle-able. We decided to also pull Milhouse into a different foster home to evaluate him. It was decided to reunite the brothers in the same foster home to see if that would help with their insecurities. It did - Rocco started making progress. We have decided to adopt them out together.
Both puppies get along with each other and other dogs. They are still somewhat insecure - Rocco is more “alpha” and vocal about his insecurities, while Milhouse is more submissive and needy. Neither dog has shown fear aggression. If you have a chance to grab Rocco, he submits pretty quickly to being held and given attention.
They walk on leashes and are doing well with housebreaking.
Please note that we don’t adopt any of our dogs out to homes with children under the age of 13.
