My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Admittedly, when we first pulled Zeus from the NYC ACC Brooklyn Shelter, we were mad curious to see how 28.4 pounds would sit on a Chihuahua. He was billed as a "chunky, but charming" fellow, but we could not wrap our minds around the weight situation.

When Zeus arrived, we could clearly see the unmistakable "Pug Mug," but even with the Pug DNA, we estimated Zeus' ideal weight to be 12 pounds. After several months of diet and exercise, Zeus has reached his goal weight, and as a four years old, he is poised to start his new chapter.

Zeus has emerged as an exuberant little fellow, who survived his family's betrayal when they dropped him off at NYC ACC prior to an out of state move. He caught the shelter bug that excluded him from the adoption program and he was put on the path to euthanasia. Fortunately, shelter staff redirected him here.

Zeus is the glorious mix of two popular breeds: the Pug and Chihuahua. He has a stout physique and half mast ears that can't seem to decide if they want to stand up or flop over. The Chihuahua DNA has elongated his muzzle and facial structure just enough to prevent the breathing problems that plague purebred Pugs. Zeus is a splendid looking, muscular dog, with a sturdy, compact body, and he weighs only 12 pounds. He has a fantastic presence for a small dog.

Zeus' personality is a hoot. He loves everyone and is a great candidate for family life with older kids who can respect a dog's boundaries. Zeus will not play favorites and will relish the affections of all family members.

Zeus is a medium energy dog, who would prefer a family vibe on the quieter side. We have noticed him becoming anxious in our crazy busy foster home with numerous dogs and over the top activity. He could easily thrive in a quieter home with other mellow dogs or cats

Zeus has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. He is in optimal health, and has been neutered. He has received routine vaccinations and a negative 4dx test. He has been dewormed, and has been on heartworm and flea/tick prevention.
