Hi there, I'm Bert! You might remember me as the sweet senior pup with a heart full of love. I've had a bit of a journey lately, with some tumors removed and a stay in a foster home. Unfortunately, things didn't quite work out with the resident dog, so I'm on the lookout for a new foster home where I can continue my recovery. I still have some cancer treatments ahead of me, and what I really need now is a peaceful and loving home to help me get through it all. Given my previous experience, I would do best as the only pet in the household. As for kids, it would be better if they were older since I have some mobility issues. Now, let me tell you a bit about myself based on what my previous foster home shared. First, I'm a well-mannered fella who's house-trained. Not a single accident happened inside the house! I'm also crate-trained, and to be honest, I'm happy to hop in there by myself without any coaching. They never closed the door because they wanted me to feel comfortable, but I'm sure I wouldn't mind if they did. When it comes to mealtime, I'm quite patient and take treats gently. But there's one thing that really gets me excited - my senior Kong filled with peanut butter! It's just heavenly. And don't worry about me causing any damage, I'm a good boy who never chewed on furniture or rugs. Sure, I may have climbed on the sofas, but I was allowed to, so it's all good. I have to say, I'm a real cuddle bug. I absolutely love leaning on people to get some good old-fashioned petting. I might even try to be a lap dog because who can resist a little extra love? Let's talk about my favorite activities - going for walks and riding in the car! I'm quite well-behaved on walks, and car rides make me happy too. I do have a preference though - I like being in the passenger seat rather than the back seat. Can you blame me? Lastly, let's talk about stairs. While I managed to handle them in my previous foster home, going downstairs can be a little tricky for me. But no worries, non-slip pads did wonders to help me get down safely. Oh, and did I mention my special diet? I'm currently on a lamb and brown rice diet, and it's been working wonders for me. Much better than the chicken food I tried before. So, there you have it - that's me, Bert, in a nutshell. If you're looking for a mature and loving companion, I might just be the one for you. Reach out to my shelter friends and ask about Bert. Let's start this new chapter of my life together! For more information or to foster or adopt Bert please contact Rowlett Animal Shelter.
