Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Chaucer’s backstory:
Chaucer arrived at an overcapacity animal control facility, which is a dangerous thing for any dog. Animal Saints was asked to help him so he could get out safe. Whenever they are at overcapacity, they have to euthanize due to lack of space. He understands the second chance he has been given, and he is truly loving life now!
Breed and Hair Notes:
Chaucer has hair that grows and not fur. He is a stunning blend of Shih Tzu and perhaps Lhasa Apso. He is agreeable to baths at home and calmly stands in a bathtub for them. He is grateful to be taken care of after years of neglect. He had a skin infection when we first helped him, and he currently needs two baths weekly with medicated shampoo for it. He is on the road to recovery! PLEASE NOTE: his hair will grow indefinitely, and he will need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost that these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care.
Get to Know Chaucer:
Chaucer's age was initially guessed at 10-11, based on the condition of his teeth. He was neutered and had a dental at the same time. Now, he looks and acts around 5! Because we do not know much about his past, his age is a guess. What we do know is that he's now healthy, happy, and wants to live life to the fullest!
Chaucer is described by his foster family as incredibly loving, gentle, and sweet. He lives with several dogs and cats there, and he gets along with everyone. He is learning how to play, and he wants to get in on the action with their puppies. He likes to run along with them!
He now know how to walk on a leash. He's gentle at the groomer. He's gentle around all people. He's just... a gentle gem.
Chaucer is also incredibly handsome. His amber eyes will just draw you in! He has a usual hue of apricot/tan/cream hair. We've never seen anything quite like it. He's truly a one-of-a-kind.
Ideal Home:
Chaucer is a pretty laid back guy, but he also has a playful side.
Because of his gentleness, he can be in a home with children, provided the adults in the home give proper guidance to the kids about respect.
He really wants to be around his people. An ideal match would be with a family who is home a lot.
Can you see curling up with him every chance you can get? If you melt at the sight of Chaucer, we look forward to receiving your application!
