Here's what the humans have to say about me:
🐾 Adoption Notice: Meet adorable Kirby! 🐾
Hello wonderful humans,
I'm Kirby, a spirited ball of fur eager to share my story with you. I've recently found refuge in the loving arms of Just Paws, embraced by the warmth of my foster family's home. Life took an unexpected turn, and my previous family, who loved me dearly along with my sister Jada (who is now at a forever home) had to make a tough decision. They couldn't care for us anymore. But fret not, because I believe my forever family is out there, and I can't wait to meet them!
I made my grand entrance into this world on September 9, 2023, making me a sprightly little puppy. My lineage is a delightful mix of terrier (courtesy of my 17lb dad), Border Collie/Blue Heeler (thanks to my 21lb mom). I have now had my final set of vaccinations and I'm proud to report I'm the epitome of health. I've gained weight in the last month so I’m a growing boy. The mystery of how big I'll grow remains to be unraveled, a journey I'd love to share with you but at a recent vet visit, the vet “thinks” I could grow to 40lbs.
I've ventured out with my foster dog sibling and have shown great promise on the leash – I’m enjoying the experience. Leash training and positive reinforcement classes are in my future, and I'm all ears for the adventures that await us. My foster family is teaching me to sit and stay, plus ‘leave it/drop it’ on walks. I’m so smart as I’m mastering these new skills – of course getting treats motivates me even more! I enjoy my walks meeting people and other dogs – I really do want to have another dog friend(s) so we can play and have fun and I can use up some of my puppy energy – it is not an absolute must; it is preferred there is another dog. Just no cats please, they don’t enjoy my exuberance. I am a very social boy and love the family life!
Currently sharing space with a lovely female resident dog, I revel in backyard shenanigans with dogs big and small. My bark matches my enthusiasm, and I thrive in a secure fenced-in backyard. If you have an active dog looking for a little brother, count me in—I'm all for play and tireless adventures. I am young, so puppy nipping and chewing does happen but with positive enforcement redirection, I am learning very well.
My foster mom has tried the crate, but I'm not a fan so I will protest. I would prefer not to have a crate. House training is great and my foster family has taught me to bark at the back door to let them know I need to go potty – I’m so smart!. Positive reinforcement training classes await, and I'm ready for the blast and bonding experience they promise.
While I have lots of energy and I’m always willing to be beside you for some pets and kisses. I love my foster human sisters. I'm not suitable for allergic companions and I do shed. My dream home should have a secure fenced-in backyard, and while a doggy sibling would be the best situation for me, access to friendly playmates for continued socialization would be great. I will not do well in an apartment/condo, so no condos for me! I just love being outdoors and sometimes I dig (such fun but learning not to do that). I've been a good pup with everyone I've met, and I believe I'd do well with respectful kids. I thrive on human attention and can't wait to shower my forever family with love. An active family would be absolutely wonderful, too!
My foster mom has this to say about me: "Kirby is a very active pup—a bundle of energy and cuddles. We're making strides with his house training. He fearlessly interacts with humans and other dogs, loves toy play, and is in the chewing phase. Watch out for your shoes! Kirby adores mealtime and treats. He would make a great family dog!"
As I continue to grow and learn, there's more to discover about me. I dream at night of finding my forever home (just like my sister, Jada) and hoping it is you! If you feel I might be the missing piece in your life, don't hesitate—apply for me today! Let's embark on this exciting journey together!
Yours in paw-sitivity,
Kirby 🐾
