Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Bernard is one of 7 siblings who were found with their mom, Meli, on the streets of Mexico. Meli was obviously malnourished, and a tourist who saw the family stopped to help and brought them to the shelter. Bernard was only about 2 weeks old at the time. Luckily, he got the chance to fly to the U.S. for adoption. US.
Bernard is calm, beautiful and curious boy who loves giving kisses!
As a 7-month-old pup, Bernard has a lot of energy and enjoys going on walks, followed by an evening of cozy cuddles. And he is a big snuggle bear who wants to be right next to you.
Bernard is house-trained and crate trained. His skills walking on leash need some improvement, but Bernard loves going on walks with his foster dad, and his walking is improving quickly.
Bernard is currently living with a foster family with an active 11-year-old daughter, so he is good with children. He is lives with big and small dogs and enjoys zoomies with his playmates in the yard.
He was tested at the shelter with cats, and he was neutral towards them, or even scared of them, so dog savvy cats would be appropriate.
This sweet boy is also well-behaved when meeting new people, but he is shy at first and needs some encouragement with treats and time to feel comfortable. Once a human has passed his inspection, as almost all do, Bernard will provide them with gentle kisses.
Overall, Bernard would do best in a home with a fenced backyard, as he is unsure about noise and traffic, but he could be adopted by city people who would be willing to teach Bernard the rules of city life so he could gain confidence. He is a smart boy who learns fast!
If you enjoy going for long walks and want a constant companion by your side—this is the dog for you!
Once adopted we require all adopters to sign up for a group training puppy class so he can learn the rules of life.
This allows for continued socialization and learning and helps to create a well-mannered and well-balanced dog.
Bernard is up to date on all vaccinations, neutered and microchipped. This pup is being fostered in Manhattan, NY.
