My story

How could a sweet, medium-sized, dog-friendly gurlie be stuck at a high-kill shelter for A YEAR?!?

That’s the question we asked when we met Laverne at the shelter September. She came in as a stray back in August 2022 and—despite being a beautiful girl who was bulletproof with other dogs—she’d never had any takers. That’s because Laverne is a shy dog.

It took a while for the shelter volunteers to earn Laverne’s trust. But once they did she turned out to be a playful, active girl who loved playing fetch and chase-playing with other dogs. When the shelter ran out of room, they could always count on Laverne to be kenneled with another dog for space.

But Laverne’s time ran out. Before the shelter could euthanize her, Outta the Cage rescued her and took her to a foster home where both the humans and the other dogs welcomed her and let her take her time becoming a member of the pack.

Laverne is ready for a forever home (so the foster family can help another urgent dog!). If you have a friendly pack of dogs—Laverne is great with both big and small dogs, male and female—and don’t mind a dog who’s a side-by-side (rather than a face-to-face) companion, Laverne will be your girl! She’s 2 years old, playful, and wants to join a permanent pack!
