My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello there, I'm Drake. Did you know I'm Catahoula and we are the only breed of dog to have historically originated in the state of Louisiana?! I've got a brain that's always ticking, always exploring. I'm a bit of a lone wolf, you see. I like to figure things out on my own, take my time to understand my surroundings. But don't let that fool you, I've got a playful side too. It takes me a while to let my guard down, to trust, but once I do, I promise it's worth it. I'm not just a dog, I'm a companion, a friend, a confidante. I'm not looking for a master, but a partner in life's adventures. Adopt me, and let's see where our journey takes us.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

LAPAW Rescue spays or neuters every animal, provides all shots, and vet checks every animal. Anyone interested in adopting must fill out an adoption application and be screened by an adoption coordinator. Home visits are required prior to adoptions. The home visit is to assure the safety of the animal and that the dog is a good match for the family.

Lake Area Partnerships for Animal Welfare (LAPAW) celebrated 20 years of companion animal rescue in November 2023, and Executive Director, Dana Frye, celebrates her 80th birthday August 2024! Let's commemorate this milestone via getting these dogs adopted for her much deserving birthday gift!!! Word of mouth is our greatest promotion so please continue to communicate in support of LAPAW--please and thank you!!!

More about this rescue

Lake Area Partnerships for Animal Welfare (LAPAW) Rescue & TNR specializes in the rescue and placement of abused, unwanted, and abandoned companion animals. LAPAW does not discriminate on the basis of health, age, breed, demeanor, background or otherwise. LAPAW strives to educate the community, ensure public awareness, and gain local political partners to mitigate the number of homeless and uncared for animals not only in SWLA but throughout Louisiana. All animals within the care of LAPAW are examined, vaccinated, altered (spayed or neutered), and treated (if need be) under the advisement of professional veterinary expertise prior to foster or adoption which entails careful and thorough screening. Feral cats who are not socialized and therefore not within the household pet category are altered prior to their return to safe outdoor environments.
