Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Ozzy! Weighing in around 45 pounds, this handsome fellow is looking for a home! We believe Ozzy is a black German Shepherd/Labrador Retriever mix who is around 1-2 years old. Despite his young age and dashing good looks, Ozzy has some insecurities and lacks confidence. He will be a wonderful companion for the right person who will positively train him and he's at a great age to do it! Though Ozzy can be leery when exposed to new situations & people, once he is comfortable he is all about his caregivers! He loves to play fetch, go for walks, and explore. When play time is done, he tends to 'sploot' and lay with his feet out behind him, it's quite amusing. However, like many insecure Shepherds, he can be protective. Shepherds need a job, and Ozzy’s self-assigned job is to guard his home. When mailmen, delivery drivers, or neighbors come a-knocking, Ozzy will be at the window, warning them with a strong bark. When introduced properly and slowly, Ozzy is a friendly dog with other people. He will need a confident handler to teach him how to behave properly with fear-free, positive reinforcement training and counter-conditioning.
On a different note, Ozzy gets along well with other dogs, but is a big dummy when it comes to playing. He does not understand dog social cues and would need to be placed in a home with an understanding dog. He can get overly excited and can’t control his goofy self. Ideally, he would be placed in a home without cats. Though he does well with confident cats, he has a tendency to chase timid cats to play.
To sum up the idea home for Mr. Ozzy:
🔹 A strong, confident owner who is willing to put in some work and use positive re-enforcement to train Ozzy. He also is fairly high energy and requires and more active person.
🔹 We are requiring a fully fenced in yard (no electric fences) due to his tendency to guard his home.
🔹 Kids 12+, he will need kids who can understand and respect his boundaries to ensure success
