Jack Jolly and his friend Little Bear came to JR from a local person who was evicted from her home because the property was sold. This little family lived in a mobile home and, even from the outside, it was obvious the inside was deplorable. Being surrendered to Joyful Rescue was the bet thing that ever happened to these two and now they have a chance to live in a healthier environment in their sunset years. They both had significant hair loss from being infested with fleas causing flea dermatitis with a secondary bacterial infection. On top of this Jack had a collar, not completely around his neck, but around his neck and embedded in his arm pit with a gaping hole showing muscle!!! Then we are told by the owner that we might want to put him down as he bites human and is not good with other dogs. Alrighty then.... We tried to cut the collar off, but we were going to be bitten and it was there that long so we made an appointment the next day for neuter and collar removal and he physically healed well. Since Jack lived so close to the rescue, we were a bit concerned that he may try to make his way back home, but shortly after the animals and humans left the trailer it burned down during the night! The fire was investigated, but no outcome was made as to the origin. Another part of this story is that Jack, on almost a daily basis when he lived in the trailer, would leave his yard and come over to the rescue and watch the other dogs through the fence. Not knowing his name at that time we would yell out the window 'Go home neighbor dog!' and he would run home. Jack was born about October 22, 2012 and, thankfully, only weigh about 10 lbs. Update: As I write this Jack has been here two years and is a very happy little dog but only one person here can touch him without getting bitten and that would be me. If he comes up and put hi feet on my leg I know I can touch his sides for a good rub down, but if another dog come up he will go after the dog and if I try to touch him when he is not asking to be touched, I may well get bit. So, Jack lives here mostly peaceful and here he will stay until his dying day because a normal home environment would endanger humans. Jack is a Joyful Sanctuary dog and he truly is loved by the humans who live and work here, but the love is from a distance. He is happy and healthy and, truly, he is adorable and funny!
