My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

A portion of my adoption fee has been sponsored by my friends at The Murray Fund.
The adoption fee sponsorship credit of $300.00 will be applied during the contract process

Hi! My name is Dozier and I am from Minnesota.

From his foster: Don't let his silver muzzle fool you! Dozier is a middle-aged silver fox with lots of pep in his step, a silky smooth coat, and a very distinguished look. Dozier is fully potty trained and can be left home alone without being crated. During the day, he's happy to lounge around the house, be by your side as you perform your daily tasks, or melt into your lap for snuggles. At night, he would love to share your bed and keep you warm.

Dozier's biggest challenge is his reactivity to dogs. This means he'll bark and get very stressed when he sees another dog even from a significant distance. Sometimes other things like a person walking by or dogs barking can also set him off. We are diligently working with Dozier to change his associations with these triggers and are starting to see progress but it takes time and patience.

Despite his reactivity to dogs, Dozier has built a positive relationship with our other foster dog who is also dog-reactive. They both needed their own space as they got used to each other and slow introductions with integration over a couple of weeks. Now they play together, relax together, and enjoy each other's company. We're confident that Dozier could build a close bond with other dogs if done gradually.

What would help Dozier thrive?
-An adopter who understands that Dozier is not the type of dog you can take to the neighborhood coffee shop, a busy lake for a walk, or the dog park. Even with progress over time, Dozier will likely always need more space from unfamiliar dogs. For this reason, we don't think Dozier would be successful in a high-density environment or apartment/condo building.
-Access to outdoor environments without a lot of dogs. This could be a home with more distance between houses, a yard with a 6-foot tall privacy fence (he can jump over 4-foot fences), or someone who is willing to go to less busy environments for walks. His foster home is on a walking path with people and dogs passing by but we take him to business developments, schools after hours, roads near the edge of town, cemeteries, and SniffSpots for walks and quality outdoor time.
-Someone who can be patient with Dozier and make choices that help him manage his reactivity. The fewer opportunities he has to react, the better.
-Someone who is willing to build a strong relationship with Dozier. With the help of anti-anxiety medication and building trust, Dozier's confidence is growing.
-Someone who will love him! Dozier has lots of love to give and is such a good, sweet boy!

Go meet their pets

The Bond Between's goal is to not keep any animals at our rescue office. The majority of our animals are living in foster homes until they are adopted. Occasionally, animals are living in our rescue office that are in need of a foster home.

If you would like to meet an animal at our office who needs a foster, please reach out to inofficeanimals@thebondbetween.org and fill out our foster interest form at https://www.thebondbetween.org/foster

For more information on fostering or adoptable animals, please visit https://www.thebondbetween.org.

More about this rescue

The Bond Between is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that focuses on the bond between humans and animals. We were founded in 2009 as Secondhand Hounds. Since then, we have rescued over 29,000 dogs and cats with the help of thousands of fosters, volunteers, and supporters in our community. Our organization has grown from a rescue to a first-in-its-class animal wellbeing organization... now The Bond Between! We continue to provide safe shelter, proper veterinary care, and daily necessities for animals while working hard to help them build a bond with humans. We also focus on supporting the bonds that already exist between people and pets with our pet food shelf, respite foster care program, and focus on social services.

We wake up every morning saying YES to connecting people and animals, caring for them, and helping them fill each other’s hearts.

You can help support us today by donating, fostering, volunteering, or sharing The Bond Between.
