My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Tanner and I'm a 7-year-old schnauzer/beagle mix. I am a sturdy, adorable 24lbs.

I am super smart, sweet, and loyal. I follow my foster mom everywhere and love to snuggle up on the couch. I am potty and crate trained. I'm also trustworthy when left outside of my kennel when my foster mom is gone. I don't chew on things and I don't have accidents. I mostly just nap and dream of when you will come back home! I will sleep in my kennel at night but I much prefer to sleep with you. I will just curl up next to you for the whole night until you make me get out of bed in the morning.

I love playing tug and fetch with squeaky plush toys, and spending time outside. I love to welcome my foster home by bringing her a toy every time.

Throughout my life I've mostly been a "one person" kind of guy. I am looking for the same type of home, with one person. I really love my person so hard that I become protective of them, and it takes me a while to warm up and learn to trust new faces. During this time, sometimes I'm not so friendly but if you give me time and space, I usually do ok. When I'm nervous I sometimes bark and growl to let people know I'm nervous. I'm not trying to be aggressive, just trying to communicate how I feel. I have done just fine with dog sitters and dog walkers who understand my personality and are patient with me.

I get along fine with other smaller, polite, friendly dogs. I generally get along better with female dogs than other male dogs. I probably would prefer not to live with bigger, energetic, playful dogs who won't respect my space. I don't think I'd enjoy living with young puppies either. I don't like cats. They're dumb.

It is best for my new owner to have a securely fenced yard so I can safely spend time outside without strangers coming up to me. I love being outside and sniffing around the yard. I love going on walks! They are so exciting that sometimes I pull on my leash, but I usually walk pretty nicely once I settle down. I've gotten a lot better at walking on a leash. I haven't had a lot of other training, but I've mastered simple things like "sit and "down.

At the end of the day, I'm a very loving guy who would just like to hang out at home, play with my owner, and go for walks. That's all I need to be a very happy guy!

No cats, no kids. No tie outs.

More about this rescue

Camp Companion is a 501c3 organization established in 2003.

Based in Rochester MN, the organization is totally driven by volunteers.

Camp Companion is dedicated to providing low-cost spay and neuter services for feral, farm and stray companion animals. The organization is funded solely by donations, fundraisers, grants, and adoption fees. All funds we receive are used for veterinary expenses and the cost of care incurred for the animals waiting for their forever homes.

Through our spay / neuter efforts, we encounter kittens and stray domestic cats that need rescue services and a forever home. We have no shelter, but rely on foster homes to care for these rescued pets. Every animal we offer for adoption is spayed or neutered.
