My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kurama's journey is a special one. He was part of the NJ 5—a group of huskies pulled from the Newark shelter. Jenni asked the shelter staff to pick huskies that they thought needed her the most: the overlooked, the hard-to-adopt, and the troublemakers. Kurama was one of them. All five huskies sang the songs of their people for the entire 16-hour drive back to the rescue, giving them the name The Jersey Boys.

Kurama is a super sweet, three-year-old boy who absolutely loves belly rubs and attention from his people. He can be playful and energetic yet remains gentle and loving. His friendly personality and gentle nature with humans make him an ideal companion for someone looking for a loyal and affectionate dog.

Kurama has a medium energy level and spends most of his day lounging on his bed or sunbathing, though he does have his playful moments.

When it comes to other dogs, he prefers smaller, calmer packs. He sometimes gets picked on in larger packs and will stand up for himself. Kurama thrives in smaller, calmer packs where his need for personal space is respected.

He does need extra feedings with added supplements to help him keep weight on. Luckily, he likes his food and is super treat motivated.

This Jersey Boy has been through a lot, but he’s ready to settle down with a family who will love him for who he is. Could that be you? Kurama is here, waiting to meet his people, and trust me—you won’t be able to say no to that face. Apply today!

More about this shelter

We are committed and wholeheartedly dedicated to providing family and emergency services involving rescuing, sheltering, fostering, vetting, adoption and transportation of
"at risk" or "death row" husky and other large dog breeds.

Our goal is to not only provide these services in larger facilities than we currently have but also to use our resources to educate and raise public awareness on the benefits of properly caring for and keeping their pets and/or adopting from shelters and not shopping from breeders.

Our mission is to share our knowledge on the pro's of spay and neuter, the cons of backyard breeding and provide sound advice and services that help the community manage their day to day with their furry family members. Together, we can greatly reduce the number of unaltered, unvaccinated animals in our communities and put a dent in the homeless population by providing access to family services as well as spay, neuter and chip id programs.
