This is the year. 2024 the year of Leslie.

Leslie spent all of 2023 with us, learning how to be a dog... and how to build a relationship with people, and well... her improvements have been significant. She's come incredibly far, and in the right home, we are sure she will continue to make strides.

Let's just get the "pit"-falls out of the way. Leslie has allergies. She's on a prescription diet and medication to help keep her happy and comfortable. Yes, that means it can get pricey, but good news, we know it works. Cars are terrifying. Getting in them to Leslie is asking her to chew off her front leg... which if her allergies are flaring up, she might prefer to do. She is getting more confident walking on the roads, but likes to take coverage behind a bush if overwhelmed. Once she's comfortable with you, she will let you pick her up to put her in a vehicle. We're working on this.

Leslie loves to chase. And as such... she would be best in a home without cats or small animals. These are just her natural instincts and those are hard to shut off. Leslie also loves to chase and kill bugs. She lacks the common sense about which bugs might sting her and which ones taste bad...but we love the effort. Don't stand between her and a bug, but also...save her from herself and don't let her get stung!

The Good - Leslie loves most dogs. She prefers one-on-one play and does well with dogs that are playful, yet also respectful. She is often in charge of "puppy-sitting" when little ones find their way to the shelter. A well-adjusted, dog-friendly dog already established in your home, would be a dream come true for Leslie. She can be a bit bossy with other dogs, but someone has to take charge.

Ideally, Leslie's home would have a fenced yard. She loves to romp and play, and a fence would allow her the freedom to do so safely. It will also help with her housebreaking. She's good about going to the bathroom outside, but on leash...within 6 feet of a human... that's scary. So to help her be successful in her home, a fence would be necessary.

Now, Leslie is one of those girls, who is going to make you have to work very hard for her affection. And she will *most definitely* give you judgmental stares. To be judged by Leslie, is to be loved by Leslie. If there's another dog that loves you, her love will become more apparent more quickly. To earn Leslie's trust and to see her goofy side come out is the ultimate gift, and those best gifts come to those who wait.
