Everyone meet Max! He is a 3-year-old tricolor husky with gorgeous light blue eyes, a great smile and a little ear notch that makes him look like he always has a question.
This big boy thinks he is a lap dog! As a true cuddle bug, he is way more interested in people than other dogs. He loves to play, specifically with squeaky toys and tug of war toys, so he can play with his human. He would be perfectly content to be the only husky in the home, though he is willing to get along with other dogs as long as they give him space when he asks for it.
Now, when Melissa told me about how Max ended up with H3, I had to go hug all of my dogs and tell them that I would never do anything like that.
See, Max here, ended up in a Texas holding pen as a stray. Where a dogs only hope is their owner coming forward to claim them or they get pulled by a rescue. If that doesn't happen, they are euthanized. Holding pens are not shelters, they don't do adoptions.
That is bad enough, right? Well, for Max it gets worse. See, he was microchipped, and they were able to get in touch with his owner. Who didn't want to come get him. I am going to say that again, DIDN'T WANT TO COME GET HIM! Even though they knew that leaving him there was a death sentence. How can someone look at this face and leave him behind on purpose?!
Thankfully, that wasn't the end of Max. Animal Lives Matter of East Texas promoted him, heavily, and we responded. Mike and Melissa drove down to pick him up as soon as they could. He was so skinny, definitely underweight for a dog his size! And turns out heartworm positive (because Texas) but he is currently undergoing treatments, with a retest coming soon. His health has improved immensely since coming to us and receiving regular feedings and treatment.
So, now it is time to find this sweetie a real home. With someone who won't abandon him. Someone who will give him all of the treats and snacks he needs to keep his weight up. Someone to cuddle him and rub his belly.

More about this shelter
We are committed and wholeheartedly dedicated to providing family and emergency services involving rescuing, sheltering, fostering, vetting, adoption and transportation of
"at risk" or "death row" husky and other large dog breeds.
Our goal is to not only provide these services in larger facilities than we currently have but also to use our resources to educate and raise public awareness on the benefits of properly caring for and keeping their pets and/or adopting from shelters and not shopping from breeders.
Our mission is to share our knowledge on the pro's of spay and neuter, the cons of backyard breeding and provide sound advice and services that help the community manage their day to day with their furry family members. Together, we can greatly reduce the number of unaltered, unvaccinated animals in our communities and put a dent in the homeless population by providing access to family services as well as spay, neuter and chip id programs.
