My basic info
Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Jeff and Cory are actually adult aquatic female red-eared sliders, 7" and 9" long. Although they have a pretty good life in a 125 gallon aquarium, they lost their last - and third home - due to a house hold move. These sisters are really looking for a fenced-in backyard pond of at least 500 gallons to call their fourth - and hopefully forever - home. We're not sure exactly how old they are because they've has such a varied past, but they're probably between 15-20 years old, but could live another 5-20 years!
Currently fostered in the Baltimore area. They like Reptomin or Mazuri pellets, but love greens, squashes, and sweet potato, too.
Sliders grow to be 6-12" long, and can live 20-50 years. They can live indoors or, if outside, in FENCED-IN backyard ponds of at least 300 gallons (to allow for hibernation). They eat commercial turtle or koi pellets, and also like aquatic plants, so a slider is not for you if you want to keep expensive water lilies. Some people build underwater plant corrals to protect their lilies while still having aquatic turtles. A slider might take a fish or two, but usually sliders and fish learn to co-exist, especially if you have underwater hiding areas for the fish and/or turtles.
http://www.matts-turtles.org/docs/AquaticTurtleCare.pdf is a care sheet for those trying to see if a slider is a pet for them.

PLEASE HELP OTHER TURTLES by spreading the word - baby turtles grow into big turtles! They do not stay small - they do not grow to the size of their enclosure! Please don't buy hatchling turtles at vacation tourist spots.
Like turtles but can't have one? Want to help? MATTS accepts tax-deductable donations at MATTS, P.O. Box 22321, Baltimore, MD 21203. We place over 100 unwanted, abandoned, and displaced turtles a year!
