Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Bates is one of our longest residents. He has been in and out of the shelter system since August of 2022. He was found as a stray and brought to a crowded city shelter. He was then adopted and returned because he was too much for the elderly woman in the home. Bates is a big guy, probably around 85 lbs. He is a giant, goofy, big boy. Aside from shelter staff he has never had anyone who supported him and gave him routine, boundaries and structure. He will need to work on his manners but loves treats and is super loyal. He looks to his handler for direction. He loves other dogs of all sizes, but plays hard and doesn't like to share his toys or food with them. No kitties or small kids . He is good with the tweens/ teens. Bates needs a home where he is given structure and exercise. He loves to run and play and would benefit from another dog. We see so much in this silly guy who just wants affection and lots of treats. If you have what it takes to help Bates please consider filling out an application on our website AACNJ.ORG.
He is looking for a foster or forever home.

Additional adoption info
Prospective parents fill out a questionnaire, and then speak with an employee at our center. We try to match the families with an appropriate pet, and arrange a "meet and greet" with the family's other pets, if needed.
Our adoption fees vary, while we believe that all of out pets are awesome, we recognize that some breeds are more desirable than others, therefore, those fees may be higher, that gives us the resources to help our medical cases and promotes our harder to place pets. All pets come spayed/neutered, up to date vaccines and microchip.

More about this shelter
We save over 900 lives per year, uniting animals rescued from high kill shelters with families looking for their new best friend. We also operate a neighborhood food bank, providing food and supplies to local citizens who cannot provide for their pets, and would have to give them up without assistance. We operate entirely on donations and money raised in fundraisers, and we have been doing so for more than 30 years!
