Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Barklee is a big puppy who is still learning how to behave.
He is easily trained with commands when not distracted. He loves to cuddle and loves blankets. He is still food-motivated, but his favorite treats are ice cubes!
As much as he loves people and getting attention, he is still very reactive to other dogs (particularly males). So, continued training is required.
With his size (approximately 75 lbs), the fact that he doesn’t know his size or strength, and he’s still learning to make good choices, an ideal home environment at this time would be:
- No young children
- Single-family home; no apartment
- Fenced yard at least 5ft high
- No cats
- No dogs, unless you’re able to integrate Barklee into the home well over time. He currently lives with two female dogs that were already in the home; they are 50-60 lbs (one dominant, one submissive). However, it’s uncertain whether an existing male/female or dominant/submissive dog in a new home would make a difference/be better
- Not being left alone for long periods. He’s used to having at least one person at home or the two other dogs at all time.
Thank you for your interest in one of our Hero Babies! Before inquiring, we thought it was important to share a few of our policies.
Your Current Pets - We do require that your current dogs and cats are current on vaccines and spayed/neutered.
Adoptions - We do not have a shelter and are a foster-home based organization. We do require that you have an approved adoption application to schedule a meet and greet. You can fill out an adoption application on our website, www.herorescue.org/adopt. Once your application is approved it will be sent to the foster family that is currently caring for the dog. They will be able to provide information on likes, dislikes, personality, etc. They will also schedule a time for you to meet the dog. We do require a home visit prior to adoption.
Inquiries - If you would like more information on any dogs in the rescue, please email us at info@herorescue.org.
