Here's what the humans have to say about me:
As winter approaches it's time to be thinking about lap-warmers - and cuddly little Midnight would love to take on that role in your life!
HISTORY
Midnight was the product of an accidental breeding of a Pomeranian mother and a Mini-Aussie father. Both parents had been dumped on a country road outside Prosser and were taken in by a private rescuer who did not have the resources to neuter them. The puppies that weren't rehomed lived in a run on the rescuer's property for at least a year before they reached out for help and HART became involved.
Midnight has been in his foster home in Kennewick since mid-July 2023, and has adapted well to living as a member of a family.
SOCIALIZATION
Midnight bonds closely with his special people. He'll stay close by as you move through your day, periodically reminding you that he's ready, willing and able to accept your attention.
He's not so keen on people he doesn't know, however. Midnight's former life wasn't one that taught him to like people much, so with strangers he's likely to be a bit barky and will then run and hide. If you're an enthusiastic social butterfly he might not be the best fit for your lifestyle ... but on the other hand, if you and your friends are willing to be patient, he will very likely learn to warm up to new friends.
Midnight has not been introduced to children while in his foster home. He would probably be comfortable with older children who are kind and gentle, but he's probably not suitable for a family with very young children.
With other dogs he's polite and doesn't mind sharing bed space and snuggles, so long as they're respectful and friendly. He's but he's submissive and can easily be bullied. He'd do best with a gentle, mellow canine playmate, and we'd expect him to do well as an only dog.
Midnight has not been introduced to any cats in his foster home, but we'd expect him to be mildly interested and respectful. We will cat-test him before placing him in a home with cats.
GENERAL TEMPERAMENT & BEHAVIOR
While Midnight is adjusting to his new life with you, expect him to be a little needy. This little guy was always the one hiding at the back of the run in his previous home, and how that he knows how wonderful cuddling is he wants to soak up as much as he possibly can! Given time to adapt, he'll be content to follow you around as you get on with your day, and bask in your presence.
Midnight is still learning about toys and play. He likes to carry toys around, and may grow a warning if another dog shows too much interest in them when he's busy. He's starting to learn about running zoomies - just in short bursts, but he's discovering that a run is a fun thing to do - and he's also learning that it's fun to play with the other dogs in his foster home.
He's generally quiet, but will bark when someone knocks on your door. His foster is working on this, but building Midnight's confidence is a work in progress that his adopter will need to continue.
He REALLY wants to please, and will waste no time in offering his belly in submission if he thinks you might be unhappy with him. At heart he's a submissive little dog who very much wants to know how to win your goodwill!
TRAINING
When Midnight came to us he had SO much to learn, and simply winning his trust took a while. His house manners are generally good - he's quiet, not destructive, and doesn't steal. He does occasionally steal really irresistible toys, like the odd sock or random bits of paper.
He's potty trained but will have accidents and may occasionally mark if he's anxious, so that training is still a work in progress. He's learning not to jump up on his foster mom, even when he's very excited and happy that she's home from work. He is comfortable in a crate for short periods during the day.
He needs to be crated when you go out, and can be whiny when left alone. However he will settle down after a while and snooze or amuse himself with a chew.
His recall isn't great, but it's improving. He is comfortable on a leash, knows "sit", and is working on "lay down".
This little fluffy is very eager to please. He responds to praise and will definitely work for high value treats. If you are kind, consistent, patient and calm, he is very trainable.
HEALTH STATUS
Midnight has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and treated for parasites. He appears to be in good health.
Midnight weighs 15 lbs. Based on information provided by his previous owner we believe he was born around January of 2021. We have assigned him 1/14/2021 as his birthday.
