My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Are you searching for a loyal companion who will never leave your side? Look no further than Tori! This 45-pound love bug is a certified "velcro dog," when it comes to snuggles, she believes there's no such thing as too close! Whether she's curled up next to you, on your lap, or even on top of you, Tori is ready to be your affectionate little (or big) spoon. Think of her as a warm, cozy blanket that will keep you snug all winter long!

About Tori:
Age: Approximately 3 years old
Training: Crate trained and house trained
Walks: Easy to walk and enjoys exploring new places
Compatibility: Has lived with cats and done well
Learning: Knows basic commands and is eager to learn more
Car Rides: Great travel companion, perfect for road trips!
Adventurer: Up for anything-running, hiking, or just lounging

Tori would love to find a home with someone, who understands her desire for companionship. A work-from-home buddy would be great! Tori needs a patient friend who is committed to continuing her training and helping her feel safe and secure in the world.

If you're ready to open your heart and home to a loving cuddle bug, Tori is waiting for you! Let's help her find her forever family!

Tori is currently in foster care with ACCT Philly. Reach out to foster@acctphilly.org to learn more about how you can take this sweet girl home today.

Behavior notes:
3/17/24 Staff noted Tori came to the PetSmart adoption event today. She was very good, no behavior concerns observed. She came right up to me to say hi and get pets. Walked around the store, was very quiet, no issues.

Foster stated that she was told the were going to start a new med and get her off what she is on now. She is hoping it helps as Tori definitely isn't acting herself. She didn't want to walk and it took her 15 minutes to get out of the house this morning. She walked around the store and outside without any problems.
Approached one of the cats in the kennels, went in a meerkat pose, not reactive. Knows sit, down, and leave it which she showed off to me. Kept coming up to me for attention.
Did a dog meet with a small ~20lb doodle with the dog trainer. Both dogs were calm and sniffed each other. Trainer offered Tori a piece of pepperoni and she sat for it.

6/8/2023 staff notes: Since being in her foster home, Tori has blossomed into a very sweet, loving, and brave girl. She's shy at first, but quickly warms up. She is a little hesitant, but with a little prodding will meet any challenge she is faced with.
Her favorite things to do are to shred boxes with treats inside, snuggle next to you, eat grass and cat food, and she loves dogs and would play with every single one if she could. Among the regulars at our neighborhood park Tori has garnered the nickname "the squirrel hunter because it's pretty much her main focus at the park and would spend all her "walkie time hunting them if she could. So, she has a high prey drive and unfortunately loves to chase cats as well. So either a home with no cats or dog-savvy cats would be best.
Tori is about 99% potty trained and crate trained-ish, meaning she will go in her crate, but whines and barks, at first, but when you leave she will rest there silently and comfortably. She still has a high level of separation anxiety.
Tori's ideal furever home would include adopters who want a loving companion always at their side, perhaps work from home, so she doesn't have to be separated from her hoomans for long. Also she would do well with adopters who are fairly active and have a fur sibling or two she can play with.

4/9/23 Volunteer notes : the SWEETEST mother daughter pair. Erin (blue bandana) and Tori (pink bandana). Both petite around 40 lbs. Erin was terrified to walk out of the shelter and I ended up carrying her to the parking lot. Tori kept coming over to give her mom a little nudge which was precious. Once outside they were completely different dogs!! They were wiggly and open to handling, both seeking out affection and also exploring the smells. They were low energy today but they both have a doggie cold so that might be the cause.
4/6/23 Per staff: Erin and tori are adorable together! They are all over each other and so sweet. They both solicit attention from all handlers when they are together and will climb over each other to get in someone's lap or roll over for belly rubs. Super sweet pair that definitely do best together.

4/2/23 Behavior evaluation: When approaching Tori in kennel she was alert barking and seemed fearful. She would not take treats but after a couple minutes did calm [down] and stop barking. She was trembling in kennel and seemed scared. She allowed the handler to step in and slip the leash over her head. She exited very slowly and walked nervously. Very nervous in the kennels- would walk slowly and try to hide in corners and behind the handler's legs. Tori was nervous in the room but would seek out comfort from her handler in the room, she continued to tremble but would lean against her handler. She layed in [staff's] lap seeking out pets and allowed [the staff member] to pet her full body without any issues. She would not take any treats at first but as time went on she began to eat some fresh pet when offered. She takes treats very gently and is a shy, sweet girl.
