LOCATION: Foster home in the DC metro area

ADOPTION COORDINATOR: Sheila, sheilamcgee2001@gmail.com

ESTIMATED WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 45 lbs

KNOWN WITH DOGS: Rosie needs slow introductions to other dogs in order to be comfortable with them.

KNOWN WITH CATS: Rosie has not yet met a cat so we do not know.

KNOWN WITH KIDS: Rosie has met and seems to enjoy humans of all ages. She has lived with small children and done very well.

KNOWN COMMANDS: She has the basics down pat! She loves playing fetch.

KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING &/OR CRATING: Rosie has been house trained in her foster home. She can be in a crate with no problem, but she's pretty chill so her foster mom & dad leave her out of the crate when Rosie is home alone.

KNOWN LIKES: Playing fetch with balls and sticks - she loves jumping to catch high balls! Treat motivated. Walks. Mental and physical exercise but also loves naps and couches - and cuddling. Loves car rides, and people of all ages!

KNOWN DISLIKES: None known at this time!

Rosie's foster says:

Rosie is ready for her forever home! She is sweet and cute, loving and happy, silly and enjoys playing fetch.

As a middle aged lady, she is the perfect fit for someone who isn't looking for puppy energy, can feel comfortable knowing she'll fully behave when left alone, and is looking for companionship.

She loves snuggling and makes her bed on her favorite couch or if you want, with you. She also loves to be around people and will work to gain the affection of any houseguests.

Give this amazing girl a chance! She is truly a delight and will warm your heart with hers.

Rosie makes for a great coworker! She is pretty quiet and just wants occasional pets and butt rubs. Otherwise she just sleeps while her person works.

We met both adults and kids (a baby and a 5-year-old) on our walks, and she was great. Wags her tail so much I think she might wag it right off! She loves the attention and was very gentle and gave a little lick when the 5 year old petted her.

More Rosie info:

Rosie has an abundance of love to share. In spite of being abandoned at a high-kill shelter in rural Southwest Virginia for no good reason, Rose's spirit remains unbroken, and her heart is ready to bloom once again in a loving home. She's a true gem, and her gentle nature and loving demeanor are bound to win your heart.

Temperament:

Rose is a shining example of an affectionate and gentle personality. She's a relaxed and laid-back girl, exuding a sense of calm and comfort wherever she goes. Rose's tranquil nature makes her the perfect companion for those who appreciate quiet moments, cozy cuddles, and the joy of having a loyal friend by their side. She'll happily play and engage in fun activities if you want to, but she's also content just lounging by your side.

Physical Description:

With her pristine white coat, Rose is a vision of elegance and beauty. Her soulful brown eyes mirror the depth of her emotions, and her endearing expression is sure to melt your heart. She's the perfect blend of grace and charm, wrapped in a dog with so much love to give.

Ideal Home:

Rose is ready to be a cherished member of a loving family who can provide her with the security and affection she deserves. Her relaxed and easygoing nature is a good fit for households seeking a calm and comforting presence. She'll thrive in a tranquil environment where she can experience the joys of simply being in the company of her loved ones.

She's the type of pup who can easily make friends and bring a sense of harmony to your home.

Adoption Note:

Rose's past may have been marked by abandonment, but her heart remains full of love, and her spirit is resilient. If you're ready to give this sweet girl the second chance she deserves, please consider adopting Rose. She's more than ready to fill your days with affection, loyalty, and warmth.

Don't miss the opportunity to welcome Rosie into your life. Her love is boundless, and she's waiting with open paws to be your forever friend and companion. Give Rose a chance, and you'll find a loyal, devoted partner who will shower you with love and gratitude.

You can save animals like this one by becoming a foster! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

You will first be required to complete our Adoption Questionnaire (http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/). Once received, a Homeward Trails rep will contact you via phone or e-mail. Please allow 72 hours for a response. If it seems you are a good fit for each other based on the info you provided, a phone interview will follow. If you are renting, we require proof that you are allowed to have a pet as well as any breed or size restrictions that may exist. If you have pets or did previously, we require your vet information and we will call them to verify that your pets are in good health, current on vaccines and spayed/neutered. We require that all pets in the home be spayed/neutered unless there are health reasons that can be verified with the vet.

Homeward Trails' adoption fees range depending on type of animal, the originating shelter and the vetting the animal has received. Our adoption fees are set to allow us to cover our expenses as well as to help other animals in our program that require additional care. Our fees cover vetting costs, shelter fees, fuel for transport, copying and printing of contracts and paperwork, our website presence, food, boarding, behavioral training and additional medical care. It is important to note that while the animal you adopt may not require all of these things, many other animals in our system do. Thus, any "extra" money from adoption fees goes to help those animals who may require additional care. By adopting from Homeward Trails, you are not saving just one life, you are helping to save others as well.

More about this rescue

Homeward Trails seeks to find permanent adoptive homes in the Mid-Atlantic Region for dogs and cats from under resourced shelters or whose owners can no longer care for them. In so doing, we seek to reduce the rate of euthanasia of adoptable animals through the rescue and placement of homeless animals; to support proactive spay/neuter practices; to promote positive and ongoing behavioral training; and to educate the public about how to care for their animals in a humane way. Homeward Trails not only facilitates adoptions from local shelters, but also supports a large network of foster care providers who take homeless dogs and cats into their homes, care for them, rehabilitate them when needed, and prepare them for their permanent adoptive homes.

Sadly, without our help, all of these adoptable animals would face almost certain euthanasia - usually within days or hours of our rescuing them. Each year we take in hundreds of wonderful animals who were left at shelters through no fault of their own.

Many are puppies and kittens – innocent victims of irresponsible pet owners who don’t spay/neuter. Some are abandoned hunting dogs who served their owners well and were dumped in woods or left at shelters when they were no longer wanted. Others are house pets whose owners simply grew tired of caring for them or moved and did not take them along. And even more are animals that have been injured, abused and neglected. Whatever the reasons, these animals all deserve better. And once with Homeward Trails, they get better!

Our Principles:
1. To always operate in the best interest of the animals we take into our program and to advocate for the proper care of those in shelters and in private homes;
2. To provide quality care for the animals we take in for as long as they are in our program and to provide ongoing support to our adopters;
3. To always maintain a manageable number of animals in our system whereby we can ensure proper medical care, behavioral training and housing for the animals;
4. To rescue the widest array of dogs and cats by avoiding general discrimination based on breed, age, and health;
5. To provide our shelter partners and their communities with resources that will result in the highest level of care for their animals, an increase in spay/neuter surgeries and a decrease in the abuse, neglect and abandonment of dogs and cats;
6. To treat our volunteers, adopters and partners with understanding, patience and support
