Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Who can help us with Smoke? He arrived to us as an owner surrender when they couldn't care for him. He was missing hair and had a wiggle-waggle to his walk. Nothing showed on x-ray so his wiggle is likely neurological from birth and simply makes him the special boy he is. He is 1.5 years young, 55lbs and heartworm positive. His gait overall has improved under the wonderful care of our Bridge facility where he has received the nutrition needed and his coat filled in nicely. He is very handsome and his wiggle-waggle just makes him super-duper adorable while not slowing him down a bit. He is truly the happiest boy around that mixes and mingles with everyone nicely, running and playing right along with the other dogs. July 8 day trip with volunteer…What I did today…. Field trip! Darlington County Humane Society Bridge Facility to pick up my boy, Smoke, for a day trip to give him a break from kennel life! Then off to Purrs McBarkin' for some treats (to share with all of his buddies at Bridge). And a field trip would not be complete without a stop at the Sonic for a cheeseburger! Then off to Lawton Park for a picnic to eat said cheeseburger. Last stop before heading back to Bridge was at a lemonade stand run by the 2 cutest little girls raising money for St. Jude. And these 2 little girls have a doggie sister named Ellie who is a former Darlington Darling that spent some time at Bridge. Seriously though, why is Smoke not rescued or adopted yet?!?! Is it because he’s a little different? Yes, we think he has a slight neurological issue but that doesn’t stop him. Besides, aren’t we all a little different? Let me tell you how awesome Smoke is! Not only does he have what I call a whimsical little trot, but he is a friendly young dog who gets along with other dogs. He did so great on his outing today. Loved the Jeep ride even with part of the roof off! Well mannered, quiet. Loved seeing the little girls- tried to kiss them through the windows. Smoke soaked up all the attention he could on our field trip. He’s like a love sponge. Smoke is a happy boy who is confident and special. 4/12/24 Foster Update: Don't let the adorable factor fool you – Smoke, a special 2-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix, has a heart that shines brighter than the snow white "blaze" that adorns his face against his magnificent gray coat. While a neurological disorder gives him a unique, happy-go-lucky gait, Smoke's spirit is anything but unsteady. This playful pup isn't slowed down one bit. He delights in galloping across the yard, chasing toys with boundless enthusiasm, then melts into a puddle of contentment for a cuddle session on the couch. He doesn't mind sharing his space with other dogs and often looks to them to snuggle up, too, if they'll let him. Completely housebroken and crate-trained, Smoke adapts easily to his surroundings – a perfect quality for someone seeking a loving, low-maintenance companion. Both of his fosters work full-time and he has no issues waiting for them to get home without having any accidents. Sometimes, he might get so excited to come out and play that he might slip and fall down when let out, but he hops right back up and acts like nothing happened. His wobbly walk might be his signature move, but Smoke's zest for life is what truly defines him. He's a dog who thrives on playtime, be it a rousing game of fetch or a refreshing dip in the kiddie pool with his toes dipped in during those hot summer days! This charming dog with a heart of gold is ready to steal the heart of someone special – could it be you? Imagine the joy Smoke would bring to your life with his infectious enthusiasm and unwavering loyalty. We hope someone will choose him and love him the way the volunteers and his fosters have.
