Niko is at this time, by best estimates, a 10 weeks old puppy who's blind in both eyes from glaucoma that went untreated before he came into rescue. He appears to be siberian/Shepherd?? Unfortunately the eye damage is extensive and now permanent, so his eyes need to be removed to avoid a lifetime of glaucoma treatment with no benefit. He is such a good boy during his 'eye drop sessions'. He doesn't protest nor throw tantrums.
Despite Niko's blindness he is a happy puppy. He loves to snuggle with people and do normal puppy things like chase a ball, run around and chew his chew toys. He learns quickly during training sessions. He is brave and curious when it comes to exploring new environments but approaches his surrounding with caution. Despite being blind he gets around pretty well using his other senses. It's amazing really to watch him navigate all on his own. For example, he knows where the dog door is, finds it without assistance, and plows right through it to get back inside from his potty session. He's just a really awesome puppy!
He would do best in a family with another dog. We will help adopters transition as much as possible.
