My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Blaine is a big boy, with a lot of love to give. He enjoys hanging with his cat friends and just relaxing.
His eye was checked out by an eye specialist and it was determined that is was cosmetic and does not affect him.

Our facility is located at 6084 Old Leesburg Road in Hopkins, SC, is open to the public Monday - Saturday from 10am - 3 pm, or by appointment. We often have cats for adoption at PetSmart, located at 5135 Sunset Blvd in Lexington, and hold adoption events at that location every other Saturday from 11am to 3 pm, where we typically have 5 or 6 dogs available for you to come and visit with. Visit our website (aplsc.org) for exact dates of our adoption events.

More about this shelter

The Animal Protection League of SC is a 501(c)(3) charitable, non-profit, no-kill, humane organization, founded in 1982. Our goal has been to provide a safe haven for the community’s abused and abandoned dogs and cats, and place them in permanent loving homes.

No pet in our facility is ever euthanized for being too old, or the wrong color, or not perfect, or because it has been here too long, or just to make room.

We are the recipient of the Secretary of State Angel Award for exemplary performance as a charitable organization.

We are a group of volunteers, from young adults to retirees, who have a passion for helping find each homeless pet its forever home.

We are all pet owners. One of our members has 12 dogs and 6 cats, every one of them a rescue. But that is not the record, one of our since passed on members at one time had over 20 dogs, and every one was a rescue. One of our members tends to a colony of feral cats, all of which have been spayed or neutered.

Our backgrounds are in Finance, Insurance, Law, Nursing, Paramedic, Retail Management, Military, Education, and Computer Science.
