Hi everyone! Summer's in season, and so is Hibiscus. This beautiful brindle boy is all about receiving the warmth from the summer heat, and giving you the warmth from his heart to yours. In any season, Hibiscus is an absolute ray of sunshine; from his brown patterned coat, to his infectious smile, it is guaranteed you will fall in love with our boy in a matter of seconds. He loves to run and play, a little exercise never scares him away! At the shelter, we would describe Hibiscus to be a go-getter, without a doubt. His confidence is one of the most prominent features about him, he settles in to any new setting and makes it his own. Some doggies may find life in the shelter as daunting, but Hibiscus' resilience ensures that he keeps that big grin of his on his face at all times. With all we know about Hibiscus, something we find to be one of the most important things about him is that he would prefer to be an only pet (his words, not ours). All adopters must be 18 years of age.
Kittens under 6 months of age: $100
Cats over 6 months of age: $25
Puppies under 6 months of age: $200
Dogs over 6 months of age $50
Your generous donation to the South Suburban Humane Society allows us to carry on our mission of helping those animals who need us most.
Adoption donations include first shots, first worming, microchip, spay or neuter, complimentary vet visit with a partner vet clinic, a personalized name tag and a wonderful pet.

The South Suburban Humane Society is a 501(c )(3) organization that was started in 1970, serving the animal welfare needs of the entire south suburbs of Chicago. In the beginning, we handled all rescues, adoptions and provided foster care out of private homes. Since November 1973, our organization has been operating a 10,000 square foot open-door animal shelter in Chicago Heights, Illinois.
For over fifty years, our organization has helped tens of thousands of animals. We offer extensive outreach programs including humane education, and community outreach events. We also operate a resale shop located in Steger, Illinois that promotes our organization, our animals and provide much needed income to support our humane work.
