My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

* SPECIAL NEEDS - ANXIETY * Bernie is an interesting little fellow with enough quirks to keep you guessing for a life time. He comes off as very shy but he loves to meet people. When he knows his favorite volunteers are at Satchel's, you can guarantee Bernie will let them know with an excited bark and stretches saying "it's time to go!" Bernie has a Woof Pack leader here at Satchel's and has become a big explorer and the longer the walk, car ride or adventure, the better, though sometimes he doesn't want to come back, and will stop and sit in protest. He adores running and traveling so if you take morning jogs, train for marathons, or travel across country, Bernie would be your perfect partner. He is gentle with his toys, and has no problem sharing his things with you. Bernie loves all life and has only shown adoration or curiosity with whatever comes his way. He is also a BIG time water dog, playing in the pool, splashing in a puddle, or even attempting to cool off in his water bowl, H2O is the way to go! Although not a big boy, Bernie is a fence jumper/climber and can scale a 6 foot fence without hesitation making leaving him alone in a yard for even a few minutes not an option. Bernie suffers with a severe anxiety disorder. He takes medication for his anxiety but still has panic attacks from time to time. He is looking for a home with a patient, loving family who will be there to help him through the "bad" times. Just 6 years old, with so much love to give, this amazing pup is just waiting for that special person who will keep him feeling safe and loved. If you think you have the time and patience to give Bernie his forever home, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will set up an appointment for you to meet this special boy.

More about this rescue

Satchel's Last Resort is a no-kill animal shelter/sanctuary whose mission is to Rescue, Rehab and Rehome dogs and cats with nowhere else to go because of breed, behavior or medical issues.

Each resident that comes to Satchel’s has its own unique and personal history. We get to know each one individually – favorite toy, favorite game, favorite foods. The dogs are housed in an airy shelter with spacious kennels, take three or four romps in the playard or walks per day, and even take car rides to let their fur flap in the wind. Cats are housed in two open cat room settings and receive social interaction with staff and volunteers every day. Most important to us -- we keep our dogs and cats safe from other residents and from humans who may want to harm them.

Trainers work with the dogs a few times a week to teach them that they can trust humans and other animals. Staff and volunteers work with our cats to keep them socialized or help them learn to trust again. We actively seek forever homes tailored to the needs of every individual pet so that they can live the rest of their lives among a family of their own.

At Satchel’s Last Resort, we believe that by harnessing the unconditional love that the dogs and cats in our sanctuary put forth everyday, the world becomes a brighter place for animals and people. Each and everyday we try to give a little of their love back – back to the pets and back to our community.
