My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dolores is an 8-year-old lady with a lot of personality. A large lady in both size and spirit, she knows what she likes - and what she doesn't. This queen prefers quiet company and very specific terms when it comes to affection. She's not one for excessive cuddles, but don't take it personally. If she wants your attention, you'll know it, and she'll make sure it's on her terms.

Dolores is quite the curious one, especially when it comes to watching the lizards that wander by her windowsill. But don't expect her to get excited over toys. She's simply not that impressed. When it comes to play, Dolores is more likely to give you a quick swipe or a playful nip to let you know she's had enough-she's never mean, though. Just a little sassy.

This lady loves her food, but she's a bit of a food snob. She's not quite found the perfect diet yet, but she's picky. Wet food with gravy is a definite yes, and treats are always welcome, though she'll turn up her nose at anything that doesn't meet her standards. And as for petting? Keep it gentle and on her terms, or she'll let you know she's not interested.

Dolores is looking for a quiet, single-animal home where she can reign as the one and only queen. She's vocal when she wants something, but otherwise, she's content to sit back, relax, and observe the world from her windowsill. If you're looking for a cat with a bold personality who knows exactly what she wants (and isn't afraid to tell you), Dolores is your girl. Just make sure you respect her space, her rules, and her food preferences, and she'll make a wonderful, independent companion.

Dolores' adoption fee has been sponsored in loving memory of Al (Bert-Bert)!

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of North Central Florida was created in 2018 when the leadership of the Alachua County Humane Society, Gainesville Pet Rescue, and Helping Hands Pet Rescue decided to permanently join forces. By becoming the Humane Society of North Central Florida, our organizations were able to effectively streamline services for pets and pet owners, eliminate any duplication of services, maximize our community’s resources, and improve the life-saving abilities of the entire region.

Our founding organizations have been dedicated to serving pets in Alachua County for more than 40 years. The Humane Society of North Central Florida is a limited intake, no-kill animal rescue shelter. The animals in our facility are transferred from open-intake and/or managed admission municipal shelters across North Central Florida. The Humane Society of North Central Florida is an independent, local 501(c)(3) organization. As such, we do not receive funding from federal agencies, nor are we affiliated with any other state or national organizations such as the Humane Society of the United States or the ASPCA.
