My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Scotty
Nicknames: Cuckoo. Baby dog. Growler Monkey.
Breed: Cairn Terrier
Sex: Male
Age: 4 years
Weight: 18 lbs.
Before OMD: Surrendered to the rescue after his elderly owner went into assisted living.
Energy level: Medium. He expects a walk every single day. However, once that has been taken care of he's happy to sit next to your desk curled up and loves when it's TV time on the couch.
Key descriptors: Precious. Friendly. Playful. Cuddly. Sweet. Affectionate.
What he loves: Curling up in his human’s arms or (awkwardly) on their lap...or between their back and the back of the couch. Shadowing foster dad. Becoming one with the nighttime (ie: standing in his yard at night and taking in all the sounds around him). Attention. Affection. Car rides – really loves car rides. Walks.
Ideal job: Explorer. He loves trails, paths, standing in ponds and lakes, and running through fields.
Outgoingness: High. He wants to meet everyone he sees even if they’re quite a distance away.
Terrier reminder: He’s chatty and likes to talk - especially to express his displeasure. It's all talk though, not barking...more of a grumble. It's truly hard to put into words. Try and picture howler monkey mixed with grumbly old man with a displeased gremlin with a dying car engine.
Been likened to: A cat with no bones when you scoop him up. He doesn't really know what to do with his body, and he's an awkward combination of ragdoll limp and overly stiff at the same time.
Are his ears for listening or decoration: It depends. When he is in his yard and enjoying himself, his foster must pick him up and bring him back into the house. When you have a treat bag, his ears seem to work just fine.
Working on: Keeping four on the floor. Consistency with any commands.
Dogs: He prefers them his size and smaller. The really big ones make him nervous.
Cats: Unknown, but we suspect he would do fine with a dog-savvy cat.
Kids: Older kids are best as he can be very jumpy and he needs humans in his home who will let him eat in peace as he is not a fan of having his bowl touched while eating.
House-trained: Yep, but his family should prepare for some initial marking and accidents while he adjusts to his new home.
Crate-trained: Yes! Goes right in when he's asked to.

Scotty is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is available for adoption to CT and surrounding states. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an application from omdrescue.org
