My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you're looking for a heart dog, Pocky's heart is ready, willing and 100% available. He's a friendly, fun dog who likes people, but what he really wants is someone of his very own to LOVE, and to be their companion, sidekick and best friend forever.

HISTORY
The Yummipups were dumped in Eastern Washington in January. They were hungry, scared and stressed when we took them in, but in a loving foster home they thrived and gained confidence.

The Yummipups' breed mix is based on our best guess. We believe Pocky is a Heeler/Border Collie cross, with maybe a dash of Terrier.

Most of the pups in this litter have already gone to their forever homes and are doing well. Pocky, however, was severely traumatized and needed some extra time. Over the past several months he has lived in a foster home, spent time with a trainer receiving hands-on training and socialization, and now he's back with his foster family - and he is a whole different dog, ready to meet his forever family and go home for good!

SOCIALIZATION
Pocky becomes very attached to the people he loves, and once he's accepted someone as a friend he is happy to greet them. With strangers he tends to be reserved, but given time to check a new person out he's willing to be friendly. In his foster home he lives with children aged 6 to 16, and he's most comfortable with older kids whose behavior is more predictable.

Like many herding breeds, Pocky can be a little bit of a nipper! If life gets chaotic he never shows actual aggression, but will try to control an uncomfortable situation by herding dogs and humans, and this may involve minor nipping. For this reason he would not be a good choice for a family with young children.

He shares his foster home with one permanent canine resident and a fluctating population of foster puppies. He's very comfortable and respectful with the adult dog in the family, but he takes a while to accept new puppies. However he's not confrontational; when puppies get in his space, he hides in his kennel.

He is good with cats. The three cats who live in his foster home tend to avoid the dogs, but when they're around Pocky is respectful and doesn't chase them. We also took him to meet our vet's very confident, friendly clinic cat, and he was a perfect gentledog. He would do well in a home with a confident, dog-savvy cat who didn't run from him.

TEMPERAMENT AND BEHAVIOR
Although he looks like a mix of herding breed and terrier, Pocky is relatively laid back, with moderate energy level. He would love to join an active family that enjoys walks, hikes and other adventures, and can offer him a yard big enough to run zoomies - but provided he gets a daily workout and plenty of loving, he'll be happy to kick back and keep you company when you're working at your desk or taking time out to read or watch TV.

He's an affectionate pup - a wannabe lapdog. If you're in the mood for a snuggle he'll happily oblige.

He loves toys ... but we're actually not sure how much he likes to play with them. This boy is a hoarder! Pocky steals all the toys in the foster home (along with random other treasures) and hides them in his kennel - and although he'll cheerfully give them up to a human, no pup need apply to share!

He LOVES to play! He enjoys tag with a dog he knows and trusts, but he'd much rather play tag, tug, or pretty much any other game with a two-legged member of his family.

Pocky is alert and will let you know if strangers are near. When out in a public place like a park he is non-reactive. He's interested in other dogs he sees and accepts friendly greetings from humans.

TRAINING
His house manners are generally good. Pocky is reliably potty trained, and is used to relieving himself outside. He is crate trained - in fact he LOVES his crate, which is his safe place that he retreats to when he wants time out from his busy foster family.

The time he spent with a professional trainer paid off well. He walks well on a loose leash, and he knows some basic commands. His recall is still a work in progress - he'll come eventually, but only when he's finished with whatever he's doing. He is very alert and focused on his people, and has adjusted fully to the rhythms and routines of his foster home.

Pocky is very smart and enjoys learning. He is somewhat treat-motivated, but responds best to praise - he loves to know he's pleased his person! This boy would be a real pleasure to train, once he has formed a solid bond with his adopter.

PHYSICAL & HEALTH STATUS
Based on a vet's opinion of their probable age, we've assigned this litter 8/15/2022 as their birthday. He weighs 50 lbs.

He has been sterilized, fully vaccinated, treated for internal parasites, and microchipped, and examined by a vet. He appears to be in excellent health.
