MEET BODIE the PEKINGESE PUPPY!!!
North New Jersey
Bodie is an 18-month old, 11 lb. male tan with black mask Pekingese. This little guy is very sweet and pretty chill (typical Peke). He loves to lounge around and sun himself by the window. He gets attached quickly to his person and he enjoys playing with toys, chewing on nylabones, and playing with other pups his size.
He is a good listener and understands the routine. He was bought as a puppy into a home with “many” young children which ultimately resulted in bite incidents breaking the skin. He arrived at the shelter scared to death of almost everything. Once in our rescue, he has been doing well learning to trust and is very affectionate.
Given his bite history (likely not his fault), Bodie needs a kid-free home (no young kids living or visiting) where he can continue to thrive. Ironically, now that Bodie is in a loving and consistent environment, he loves everyone he meets including the UPS guy, the Fedex guy, the mailman, all visitors to his foster home including young people. He just loves people and wants to say hello to everyone. God only knows what he went through in his former life. He will likely continue to blossom in his new home as he matures and continues to learn to trust.
Bodie has been brought UTD, neutered, he is HW and Lyme negative, dewormed, chipped, and housebroken. He did well at the vet and allowed all handling with no problem. He has been to our groomer a few times and has done very well and has even learned to trust having his front paws trimmed.
Bodie can be an “only dog” since he prefers people over dogs but he would do well with another doggie his size and energy level (and other Pekes of course). Breed experience is preferred and will be prioritized (or similar brachycephalic breeds). Incidentally, Bodie and Spaulding do EXTREMELY well together so it would be amazing if they were adopted together! (and yes in that situation we could discuss a bonded-pair adoption fee)
Bodie’s adoption fee is $650.
TO BE CONSIDERED, PLEASE EMAIL THE FOLLOWING PRELIMINARY DETAILS to:
adopt@gingerbreaddogs.org
- Name of dog(s) you are interested in adopting
- Your full name
- Full address
- Phone number
- Type home (house, condo, apt, etc.)
- Fenced-in yard details if any
- Ages of everyone living in household
- Work schedule of adults in household
- Ages of children visiting the home and frequency
- Current dogs in home: name, breed, size, and age
- If no current dogs, then your previous dogs (name, breed, age, what happened to them)
- Pekingese experience if any (or similar breeds)
- How soon are you looking to adopt?
- If approved, how soon can you conduct a meet & greet in north NJ?
- Your Veterinary practice references including phone number (GIVE THEM PERMISSION TO SPEAK WITH US BEFORE SENDING THIS EMAIL)
We cannot accept phone calls and PLEASE give your vet office permission to speak with rescues if you are applying to adopt from any rescue. Ask them to mark your file. If they will not speak with me, I will move on to the next application and you will not be considered.
We consider out-of-areas adoptions on a case-by-case basis. All meet & greets and adoptions are held in north New Jersey and we do not transport our pups. You must come to NJ. We also do not “hold” dogs. It is first qualified, first come and our expectation is you will move quickly to conduct the meet & greet if you are approved. An approved application does not guarantee adoption of any dog from our rescue.
Note: adoption fees are not negotiable. Our typical investment in our dogs is $1,200 (since we do mostly seniors and hospice) and it goes up from there so our adoption fees do not even cover their vet bills. If you cannot afford an adoption fee, you should not be adopting any dog. They are expensive, especially these little ones!
