Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Meet Bella. This beautiful girl is 3.5 years old. She is an active and independent dog who thrives with walks, training, and a little bit of alone time. Do you work in an office but would love to have a companion to come home to? Bella may be your girl. She is completely house-trained and can be left alone for 8 to 10 hours if needed. She thrives on a routine that involves morning and evening walks and adventures. Bella is about 7lbs. She is spayed and current on vaccinations and prevention meds.
Bella has some sensitivities that her family will need to understand and work with her on. She has some visual impairment, so it takes her some time to feel confident in a new home and around new people. Quick movements and unpredictable environments still scare her, so a home with small children or a busy household would not be ideal for her. She is being fostered in a home with dogs and a cat. She will need very slow introductions with new friends, and the same applies to quick or unpredictable movements, so older, more relaxed, and confident animals would be best. She has also been diagnosed with hip dysplasia and is on high-quality food and supplements to manage any symptoms. She is also on doggie Prozac and will need to continue this until she is settled in a new home and a vet clears a weaning plan.
Bella has spent five weeks at Paws and Play Training program and is really coming along with her confidence, but this work and socialization will need to be continued in her new home.
Bella was surrendered to rescue almost a year ago. She has been in and out of numerous homes due to her fear response, which has resulted in reactivity. However, after training and now that we know her much better, we are confident that with continued training and a confident family to lead her, she will thrive and make an amazing companion.
She loves to be social and experience new things, just on her own terms. Bella would not work as an emotional support dog; she needs an emotional support human who will advocate for her and give her the space she needs to navigate the world. Does it sound like she could be the girl for you? Please apply, and we’d love for you to meet this special girl.

Additional adoption info
**If you are unable to pay the adoption fee ($250 and up), we are unable to place a dog in your care. Being unable to meet the financial obligations of pet care (recurrent or emergent) is one of many reasons why so many of these pets end up in rescue. It's not lack of love.**
We require an adoption application, and then we will check references. We also check with vets. If the person is not LOCAL then we will partner with a local animal control to complete a home visit.
There are adoption fees associated with the costs of veterinary care of the pet. We require an adoption contract to be signed to finalize the adoption process and we have an agreement that all our pets are to be Chihuahua Rescue Indiana Inc. pets for LIFE. In other words, in the event that they can not stay in their adoptive home, they are not to be surrendered to another individual or rescue.

More about this rescue
Chihuahua Rescue Indiana Inc. is a non profit, all volunteer rescue working with Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes. The pets are housed in individual volunteer foster homes, not kennels or shelters until they are adopted permanently. We get to know our animals and therefore can tell the potential adopter what the traits of the animal are and what home would be the best for the pet. We are dedicated to the adoption, education, rescue and transportation of the Chihuahua breed. We believe that every Chihuahua deserves a loving home.
