Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Wuzzy, our 10 year old 24 pound terrier mix, is clearly a wizard stuck in a dog body. Extracting wizard souls from dogs is above and beyond what we do here at Stumptown, so Wuzzy's adopter will have to accept this fact. Wizard soul aside, this wise, gentle man is in need of a forever home. We promise he won't cast any spells.
Wuzzy was left at the shelter when his owners could no longer take care of him. Due to the state of his teeth, we took him in. We've cleaned Wuzzy's teeth (he had to lose several painfully infected ones), checked a senior blood panel on him (all normal), and have spent some time getting to know him while he recovered.
His foster family describes him as a SWEETHEART (capital letters theirs) but he's cautious around strangers. Wuzzy has a big bark for a medium guy, but once he's sure there's no danger, he's all cuddles and belly rubs. He needs someone willing to take the time to earn his trust (approximately 30 minutes in our experience).
Wuzzy seems to prefer women, but that's not a requirement for his home as he's learned to like his foster dad too. He is a very good boy in the house, is not at all destructive and is potty trained. Wuzzy is also good with other dogs. He's recently started doing zoomies and play bowing, so a calm, playful friend would be great. Wuzzy is a shy eater and sometimes wants to be handed his kibbles. He really enjoys being petted and brushed and walks perfectly on a leash. Wuzzy doesn't seem to have any prey drive on walks, so we think he'd be nice to a cat with appropriate introductions.
Because he likes the quiet life and runs on the scared side, we think Wuzzy would prefer to live with kids over 12. He is heartworm negative, microchipped and current on his flea and heartworm preventatives.
Wuzzy deserves a home of his own, one that will keep him forever. He will leave his cape and crystal ball behind for a cozy spot on a couch. Is it yours? Apply to adopt at www.stumptownstrays.org
