My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Vocal, Independent, Determined

Meet Ruby Mae!

This girl is ready to take the world by storm, with you by her side. She is independent and calm, enjoying simple pets, catnip toys, and stuffed toys she can snuggle with. She has had pretty relaxed interactions with other cats and dogs, although she does best with a lower energy environment so excitable pets and children may not be ideal.

Ruby Mae will need someone patient who can read her boundaries, because changes are tough for her - it will take her a week or two to get used to a new home. And that's understandable, because Ruby has profound cerebellar hypoplasia (CH), which is a neurological condition that makes her unbalanced when she walks. She gets in and out of her adaptive litter box, and will "run" over to you! After a few steps, though, she will flop over; then she gets up and does it all over again. Don't worry, she's not in any pain, that's "normal" to her!

Ruby Mae may not seek out attention very often, but she will cuddle on your lap if you place her there, sniffing and gently licking your hand. She grumbles as a way to communicate, and is very cute when she enjoys something! She'll try to stand up on her own and will crawl to her food and bed when she wants to. She likes to be as independent as she can! Providing her padded areas in case she falls, serving her food in wide-edged and shallow bowls, and having a low-entry litter box are all things you can do to help her be the independent gal she is determined to be.

Everything about Ruby Mae is delightful, she is just a little different than other cats! She has beautiful tabby markings, a super-long tail, and her eyes gaze right into the core of your being.
Seeing Ruby Mae's happiness when she's enjoying a toy or getting some love will warm your heart.

Feline cerebellar hypoplasia (CH) is a non-progressive, non-contagious neurological condition that causes balance issues. CH cats were born like this and usually wobble or have a funny gait; some cats have a minor imbalance and some are very wobbly! Cats with moderate to profound CH, like Ruby Mae, require accommodation, like avoiding stairs, in addition to the accommodations mentioned previously. Ruby Mae also takes a daily medication. Cats adopted from APA! with CH must be kept indoors only. CH cats have the same lifespan as other cats. For more information, please visit: lifewithchcats.com.

All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team.
