My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Peppino is a sweet Yorkie boy who is 8 years old and weighs 18lbs. Peppino is being fostered in Dunedin, FL.

Updated bio: 10/02/23 Hi from Peppino or, as my foster mom calls me, Peppi. Wow! A lot has happened since I arrived at my foster home 5 weeks ago. My foster mom calls me "Mr. Adaptable" because after being surrendered by my owner, I was transported across the state, spent one night at another foster's home, then one night at my current foster's home and then we had to evacuate for a hurricane! So we spent one night at a friend's house, came back home for one night and then we went to another town and spent a week at another friend's house pet sitting. I thought it was pretty cool and I got to see lots of other homes and meet other dogs. Remember I was living in a dog pen for three years and didn't get out much. I haven't stopped smiling and I love all these adventures!

I had my Well Doggie exam and it looks like all is well. They thought I had Cushing's disease and, after an Ultrasound and then an all day blood test, it turned out negative. Whew! I have been kind of a regular at the vet for this stuff and my foster mom takes me there regularly to weigh me too. She is diligently trying to get some excess weight off of me. I don't like the diet part, but I LOVE the long walks she takes me on. She says I am very good on the leash too. I also got my teeth cleaned and had no extractions.

We are working hard on my housebreaking. I may have been housebroken a long time ago but if I was, I forgot what to do. So I know to go on the pee pee pad, sometimes I have accidents, but when I do go potty outside or on our walks, I get a treat and a ton of praise! So I think I need to pay attention to this.

I do have a little separation anxiety, but it doesn't last for long. When my foster mom leaves the house, I bark like crazy because I don't want her to leave me. But she's sneaky. She waits at the end of the walkway where I can't see her, so she knows I stop barking after a couple of minutes. I also bark when people come to the door. I guess that makes me a good little watchdog?

I love to sleep too. I could sleep in a lot longer in the morning, but the other dog in the house gets up early and wakes me up.

I love all people, especially the attention they give me, and I get along with everything. Honestly, I am just loving my freedom and life right now.

My ideal home would be with someone who is retired or works from home and is at home most of the time. I can be left alone with no problem, but I don't really want to be alone all day. An apartment or condo may not be ideal for me, as I can be a little barky sometimes. A fenced in yard would be nice, but not necessary as long as I get my walks in.

I do get along with other dogs really well, although sometimes I can be a little bossy, so my foster mom works with me on that.

But everyone who meets me loves me and says I will be a great companion for someone because my favorite place is near my human. I may take a little bit of training, but if you are willing, I am able and would love to love you Furever.
