Tanny is a very sweet and sensitive guy who hasn’t had the best of luck, entering the scary shelter system at only 6 months of age. He now lives exclusively in foster (until his wonderful forever family finds him!), as he was battling very poor skin reactions and extreme anxiety at the shelter.
Now 1 year old, Tanny has blossomed into a sweet, confident, cuddly, follow-you-around, people LOVING guy. However, he is still a little rough around the edges with his house manners. Tanny is making tremendous progress in foster, quickly learning a ton of basic commands as well as developing his overall understanding of boundaries. He really tries to be a good boy, he still just gets very excited sometimes!!
Tanner would be a great forever fit for a dog-savvy person, as he needs a little bit of patience to continue to decompress, and help him sort out some of his big feelings. Tanny has the potential to live with another well-suited dog (energy/strength), as well as kids over a certain age that have an understanding of dogs. A place where he has some space to play would be best.
Although Tanner is having a great time in foster, he would love nothing more than to be in his forever home with a loving family.
Adopting Tanner also comes with a ton of offered support and resources from his friends in the Orange Dot crew!!

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day! For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites. For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.
Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older
