My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jax, aka JJ, has mellowed into a really nice guy.
He`s one of very few `green dot` walk dogs in the shelter meaning he can be handled by any adult.
There`s not a lot you`ll need to teach Jax. Think of an old friend who comes to visit, show them where to find the bathroom, bed and where to find the food and water and he`s good!

Jax`s Highlights:
- House broken and does not mark
- Great on a leash
- Great with people, everyone is a friend
- Can stay home alone and free roam during a work day
- Quiet and rarely barks
- Great grasp of language - knows English and Spanish cues

Got pets at home? Jax loves to pick his dog friends - let`s do a meet up!
Jax has lived well with some dog-savvy cats and others, not so much.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
